I’m at the point in my writing career where the “domino effect” has begun. Within the past month, I’ve published my first ebook of poetry “Dreams of the Heart“, had an interview for the book (for the full interview: Meet the Author), had a book review, been asked to contribute two poems to an inspirational book to inspire people who’ve been through life changing hardships, been contacted to contribute content to about three motivational websites, was asked to be the PR and inspirational writer for JOI Luxe a fashion line that spreads joy and happiness all over the world and still more… Whew! This is on top of having a full time day job. Somehow I’ve been managing it all, but it makes you begin to wonder. When’s the right time to invest in a personal website?
Currently, I manage a blog Make the Most of Your Time, have a Triond Profile, wrote the Anthony Crawford Band’s website biography and am credited, and participate in many online networking sites to promote my work. Additionally, the publishing company that found my online work, contacted me and asked to publish / market / etc my book(s) has been added to the list of venues where my work is thankfully being advertised.
So, it’s at this point where things are starting to take “flight” on a steadily growing basis that I’m wondering, truly, when’s the right time to invest in your own personal website? I’ve researched a few authors who are doing quite well, and have a great number of novels under their belts, with either NY Times Bestseller and or literary award recipient notoriety that have their own website and it makes me think maybe I’d be jumping the gun at this point.
Although, if I take a step back and really look at what I’ve managed to accomplish in the past four years, maybe this is the right time? After all, to date, I’ve published approximately 750 online articles which is literally equal to publishing approximately 3 books (books are about 200 pages in length). Given this metaphor, you can actually say that I’ve written a total of 4 books. (When you’re a true indie artist you need to find creative ways to motivate yourself and see your work in a different light, to truly appreciate and recognize the amount of great work you’ve been able to create so far.)
So what do you think? Do you really need a personal website as well to further promote your indie artist dreams? Does it give your work more notoriety when people see that you have your own website? And, if so, when do you think’s the right time to invest in it? I’ve noticed that many musicians, photographers, and other artists have websites they’ve invested, so maybe the fact that I’m thinking about it right now, is the door opening slightly letting me know that I’ll soon need to start my own website as well. Otherwise why would I be thinking about it…?
Have you started your own for your artist dreams… I’d love to know.

Your own website obviously couldn’t hurt, but you are definitely on the ball. Congratulations and keep up the good works.
Very nice
I first set up my own website to promote my films back in 1999. At the time I don’t think websites like FaceBook, Triond and so on existed. I am glad I did set up my own website, although I have found places like Triond and Youtube are much more effective at reaching people.
One of the problems I’ve run into is that I got into writing HTML and PHP code, which I enjoy, but it takes away from writing and filmmaking.
Terrific article, and congrats on your success!!
well informed
Congratulations Joie, Your prayers are answered. God gave the desires of your heart. Keep it up, my precious angel.
