Life outside Earth, had been an interesting topics for the last century. Hundreds of stories, urban legends and scientific research had been made and done around this subject. Some Extraterrestrial fans and futurists had even gathered together and started engaging activities known as world-building. If you have some interests in ET, UFO and space in general, you might want to join one of these world-building project.
The Existence of extraterrestrial intelligence (ET), had been an interesting topic for thousands of discussion during the last century. It all begin with public awareness about the existence of worlds outside our own planets. Since then, millions of people had asked and answered billions of questions in both offline and online discussion.
Despite the fact that Francis Drake had shown by his formula the high probability that life evolved somewhere else in our universe. The astronomical distance between stars and the proven scientific fact that nothing with mass could go faster than light, would mean that while life could evolve somewhere else in the universe, empirical evidence about their existence may need hundreds, thousands or even million years before being available. Anyone who really want to meet an alien, will need to have astronomical patience.
That fact however, had lead hundreds of ET enthusiasts to form groups and channel their energy for a new kind of activity known as world-building. A World Building group gather hundreds of enthusiasts who have various educational background, which in turn define the path and scale of said world building project.

Orion’s Arm is a hard science World-building project. The project was founded by M. Alan Kazlev and Donna Malcolm Hirsekorn. The project scale of time is between 500 and 10,000 years in the future. The scale of space is a spherical region in the Orion’s Arm of Milky Way thousands light years in radius. The term “hard science” means that the project want any article written in its website to be as physically plausible as possible.
As a rule of thumb, space travel in Orion’s Arm universe is limited by the speed of light. In fact, spaceships capable of accelerating above 90% the speed of light are depicted as rare. The only faster than light means of travel allowed are via wormholes, which are expensive to create and maintain.
Orion’s Arm universe was also founded on a belief that evolution of humanity will be enhanced by future genetic-engineering, artificial intelligence, longevity treatments and biological enhancement technologies. This had lead to the emergence of superhuman intelligence known as transapients and archailects.
In Orion’s Arm universe, human place as the most influential species had been replaced by more advanced beings. Some of them are evolved from Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Robots and Biologically Enhanced beings. Thus humanity exists no longer as a species, but more as a matter of thought.
What most people would describe as aliens in Orion’s Arm universe are mostly Earth derived species which intelligence had been enhanced via genetic engineering and training. Lifeforms evolved independently outside earth do exists, but depicted as rare and far between.

Wayne Barlowe is the writer of a science fiction book Expedition. The book tells a story about an expedition launched to a planet named Darwin IV and what the expedition found there. The timeline of the story is about 40 years in the future and the stories only revolve in a single planet.
The creatures of Darwin IV is radically different from those found on Earth. The low gravity of the planet allowed bigger creatures to evolve. Some creatures even utilize flying method analogous to those found on jet fighters, by burning methane inside their bodies.

The Garden Universe is a world-building project created by Matthew C. Johnson. The timeline of this project is between billions years in the past up to several hundred years in the future. The project assume the existence of several intergalactic civilization who had colonized several systems within the solar neighborhood. Wars had been fought by extraterrestrial civilizations millions years ago, but the current era of The Garden Universe is somewhat peaceful.
