The Limits of the Internet

Is there any limit to how much information or media can the internet have? How much content can you load to the internet? The numbers are really big, actually they are so big that even if you lived 1000 years you would simply not have enough time to read and see and watch and listen to all the internet content.

The internet is probably the best thing Man invented. A simple network of computers to rule the information and communications of the entire planet is really something worth being proud of. The internet first started, like almost any good invention, with the military. they wanted a way to share information and be able to continue to use the system even if they were under a nuclear attack and one of the servers goes down. The internet sends the information in packs so if one computer goes down, it has all the other packs and just needs to ask for the rest of the package to the host and then presto, the information is in the other machine.

To put information on the internet, any kind of information, you need to have internet connection, you need to have a browser and you need to have an account on a server. You can then start to upload your content.

How much contentcan you upload to the internet? You might not believe this answer but it is really unlimited. There is no physical limit to how much you can place there. First you can make your own server and buy several TB hard disks. With a budget of just 10.000$ you can buy 100 2 TB hard disks making 200 TB of capacity or 200.000 GB. This is more than enough to run a server with more articles and more music and more low bitrate video than you can ever see in your whole life. This example is for a savvy that runs his server from his room.

Now let’s check the professional services. You can register for a service called MOZY where you can upload all your hard disk, literally you make a backup of your entire computer and the amount of space you can use is unlimited. If you delete all your files from your computer and then you new files and then you back them up too, you do not pay more for it, nor they will refuse to serve you. How they manage to get so much space is still a big mistery for me.

The professional hosting services are unlimited too. You can have unlimited domains, you can have unlimited space, unlimited databases, unlimited email, unlimited bandwidth and of course this means you can have unlimited data in that server fur as little as 3$ per month (if you know any cheaper than this please tell us in the comments section).

With a fast internet connection and an ftp you can upload all the pages you want to your site, you can give the users more content than they can read in all eternity because you upload faster than they can read, forever, and thus it seems that there is no physical or even a virtual limit to the internet.

Only the future will tell us if we are going to explode with so much information.

You can be the biggest site in the world if you want to.

Warning; The example below is just an example, you should not really do it under any circumstance because of legal and moral issues.

Imagine you want to be bigger than all the sites in the entire world. You really set your mind to achieve that. How are you going to do it? First of all you cannot physically produce more information with your own two hands than what the world already does so you are going to need some software or some scripts. You are going to need some software than can mass download websites. This way you can get all the content for free. Try the free article directories. This way you do not risk going to jail or having your server and domain rated as spam or closed down. The second thing you are going to need is some software with similar words that can change the meaning of your content. Such software will replace most keywords with similar ones, avoiding being rated as a duplicate by Google or any other engine or blog. Finally you are going to need to have something that can put all that information together again. Let me tell you that so far I have not yet found any software that can do all these things together. You can have the download software, the text change software and then publish software, but not all in one package.

Backstreet browser is one program that can mass download any site you want. It’s free and easy to use. There are scripts on the internet about how to change the text and some of the meaning of it. And finally you can use Wordpress for example to manage all the mosntrous amount of data.

Now you just need to start downloading big sites, change their content and then to republish them all!

Why would you want to make such thing? Money!

With a huge website and some products attached to it you can make a serious amount of cash. You have Adsense, Clickbank, your own product if you have one and so many other options.

Limitations:

  1. Download of the web. It will take a lot of bandwidth and speed to download the entire internet, even a few huge websites and not every computer can handle that amount of data. You need a very fast computer and a very fast internet service provider.
  2. It would take a lot of time too to change the keywords of your content, plus this would not be 100% automatic unless you make your own software or pay nicely to someone that does ir for you.
  3. It would take a lot of time to publish all that information again. The best way I know is to set up an email address and link it to Wordpress so instead of having to use an online publish script you just need to leave Outlook or Gmail sending all the messages automatically to Wordpress. Again you would need a software that could open the files in HTML and send the text and only the text, not the HTML content as a message.

And you would have to wait some years unless you own your own email servers or unless you use thousands of addresses to do the job.

Manage to do that and you will be a very rich man. All that information will be indexed by Google. 200 million searches is the number of daily searches just on Google alone. The user is really focused on getting new information and where a person is, money is, so advertisers will ALWAYS want to sell something to him.

Well, good luck beating all the engineering problems with this new internet of your own!
