Reading other writers’ articles on Triond helps you to develop your own skills. But it does more for you; it opens your mind to new ideas, thereby inspiring you to write new articles. Reading is a major part of my own writing process, usually taking up much more time than the actual writing of the article that I’ll publish.
Reading is crucial for writers when compiling the facts for a new article. Beside that it gives you new ideas what you might want to write about. The Explore function on Triond is, in my opinion, not used often enough. If you lack a current idea for a new article, go and read what has been published on Triond, it is truly inspiring. Sometimes I snatch up an idea from an author covering some news or writing, sometimes the idea comes by the simple fact that I can’t find an article relating to a theme.
Another positive approach to get some reading done when you are short on ideas on what to write about is going through the old articles of your Triond friends. Some will give you an idea to write a follow up story, or they portrayed a state of affairs that might be reviewed now; others might just amuse you and remind you of amusing things you want to share with your friends here.
My first choice to send you to is just such an amusing article:
The Strange World of Useless Signs by ReAdThIs. It might inspire you to write just such a follow up article as mentioned above.
My second choice is an example for a writer who is a specialist in his favourite subject, it might appeal to you as a writer to become recognised as an authority on one specialized field as well. Reading his articles will give you ideas on how to go about it:
The Mystery of Bedlam Revealed by C Jordan. Obviously, my choice shows that a writer with a well known area of superior knowledge, this is meant as a nod to Mr. Banksy himself, is allowed to publish articles on other subjects.
My next choice is a perfect example of writing about what is near to your heart:
The Best Place to Write is a Quiet Place by St Adro. It might help you to take the plunge to write about the things that are dear to you, rather than trying to stick to the most popular themes.
You might have a vein for the weird and the wacky:
The Darwinator by Autumnrose. This article might be an inspiration to those who have a splendid imagination.
Finally, the writer who navigated me through the first days as a Triond writer and one of her many excellent articles:
Why Freelance Writers Should Write for Triond by Allison West.
I really recommend reading a lot to everybody, it helps to develop the skills and find a style appropriate to yourself and the themes you are covering. And when you are writing along the edges of your friends’ articles, include the links into your article, it helps people to refine their views on your subject or to continue reading about something they have become interested in thanks to your writing.
