Biquad wifi antenna also known as double quad wifi antenna, this wifi antenna easy to be made for self and its components is easy to be found and also low cost.
The double quad is a simple to build but effective antenna for 2.45Ghz wireless lan or video sender use.
The antenna can be matched to 50 ohms by adjusting the distance between the figure of 8 element and the backplane.
the simple antenna model is only consisting of element which in form of 2 square provided with backplane.
Biquad is one of many directional antennas type.
Directional antennas are used for Point-to-Point or sometimes for Multi-Point systems depending on the setup.
for more gain, biquad wifi antenna can be combined with parabolic reflector or DirecTV dish or satellite dish, The dish helps focus the radio waves onto a directional antenna feed.
some building a biquad antenna feed because it offers very good performance and is pretty forgiving when it comes to assembly errors.
you just follow the guide to assemble the feed, and attach it to a DirecTV dish and test out its performance.
With just a handful of cheap parts, a salvaged DirecTV dish and a little soldering, maybe you can able to detect access points from over 8 miles away.
some experiment with home made biquad wifi antenna can make a gain of approx 11-12dBi, the more detail you can found in this LINK.
