Bad Behavior and the Internet
Was it a hate crime when Dharum Ravi and a female friend placed a web cam in freshman Tyler Clementi’s dorm room and taped Clementi and a friend having homosexual sex? Ravi published the film on the INTERNET for the whole world to see. It was a dishonorable invasion of privacy and it caused the death of a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. Tyler Clementi went onto the George Washington Bridge on Sept.22 and jumped off the edge. From the evidence, it seems that Ravi marked Clementi because he was homosexual. Investigators will have to answer the question of it being a hate crime, but whatever you want to call it, it was a horrible act of bullying, call it stupid prank or anything you want to.

Why does anyone think they have the right to spy on a person in the privacy of their own bedroom? Where did that come from? With all the cams, cell phones with cameras and all the new technology, privacy doesn’t mean much anymore. Our country and maybe the world is breaking all standards of decency. Just how ugly have we become? We let our kids watch trash on TV, the reality shows with no common standards of decency, and shows like Maury Povich and Jerry Springer that are as indecent as you can get. Have we no shame? We bring up our kids to see no wrong in these immoral goings on. We parents have fallen in quickmire and our kids will pay for it. They will pay by having no sense of what is acceptable in society.

We once had something called manners. It was bad manners to invade anyone’s privacy. It was bad manners to humiliate anyone. It was certainly bad manners to cause someone to kill themselves. It’s time to wake up, America, and get back on the right track. If you remember, not too long ago a majority of our citizens smoked cigarettes and we thought it was cool, but the tide turned with education, and now few smoke in public places because it’s against the law.
We can’t make people give up their cams and cell phones but we can make it unacceptable to spy on others and intrude on their privacy. We can let it be know that we won’t tolerate such bad behavior. It’s something we owe to Tyler Clementi.

Yeah… I;ve stopped watching TV cause of the stupidity and the cruelty of the press, “hunting” people putting them down, even lying or distorting information to increase their audience, Make shows where they would invite simple people and laugh at them.. and what hurts me the most is that those kind of shows have the best audience. Thanks!
This was a very interesting article. It really is a shame that some people use the Internet as a way to bully people. I heard about the young man who committed suicide because of the people who filmed him and put it on the Internet. That is really horrible. I hope that they are punished severly for this and then maybe the other bullies will realize that you should not treat people that way.

Interesting topic. Many parents do not have time and / or do not know how to do parenting. Whereas, Children learn fast in the Internet. If there is nobody to save children, many terrible things can happen and great harms are very likely to take place. Thanks for sharing.
