A Guide to The Triond Forum

So you’re new to Triond, and want to spend a bit of time in the forum.  Maybe you’re looking to figure out how things work, maybe you’re here in search of feedback, wanting to improve yourself as a writer.  Or maybe you just want to hang out and make friends.  But upon arrival, you’ve realized that the forums are a bit hard to figure.  Is there a hierarchy?  What constitutes good/ bad etiquette?  And what is the deal with trolls?

Here, then, is your manual for this forum.

Notes

  • This is not an article about Triond or writing… just the forum.
  • The forum is not a necessary aspect of being a writer on Triond.
  • There is quite a bit of knowledge here, regarding both Triond and writing.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice.
  • Don’t put links to your articles in the forum… complete waste of time.

Etiquette

  • There isn’t much… people insult each other in jest on a regular basis.  Personal attacks will get you banned.  Beyond that, it’s simply a matter of treating each other with a mutual respect.

The Trolls

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Triond has a few regular trolls, and will usually have a few pop up each week, on average.  They vary in severity… some are playful and harmless, some can be malicious and mean.  As you’re learning the ropes of the forum, your best bet is to ignore them.  Like a petulant three year old, the ‘unfriendly’ trolls are usually just lonely people who lead miserable lives and are just seeking attention.   Once you have a bit of experience with them and begin to understand how they work, they do tend to make amusing playthings.

The Members

Several important points to keep in mind as you get to know the members of the Triond community.  The majority of them are aspiring writers, which gives this forum a rather unique dynamic.  Most of the conversations here are rather tongue in cheek; while they may seem, on the surface, to be offensive, they are not meant to be so.  Most of the people here are good, solid individuals.  There are people from all aspects of life, and from all over the world.

Here is a list of some of the forum regulars, with a bit of a description of each.  Keep in mind these are my personal observations, and the opinions expressed are my own.

Abdella

Abdella is a kid…. I believe he’s 16 or 17.  And a rather devout Muslim, especially for his age.  Likes to argue, but mean about it.  If you get upset over theological discussions, avoid them with him.  This kid is not afraid to speak his mind.

Alistair Briggs

Al is a 20 something guy from Scotland.  Good dude with a sense of humor.  Personally trained the Loch Ness Monster.

AngelicaRaene

Very mild mannered, enjoys conversation.  Little scary when she’s pissed. :)

B Nelson

Known for spats of nudity.  Married to another Trionder, whom she met online.  Did I mention the nudity?

Babyface Jam

This guy is a librarian or something.

Bo Jack Russo

The mighty Bo Jack.  There is no substitute.  Has a blog that many here participate in.  Basically a big fat (really fat…HA!) teddy bear.  Loves boobs and sports, and will talk forever about either.  One of the first people on Triond you should make a point of meeting.  The Godfather.

BradONeill

Brad lives on Triond.  Has been a part of every thread since 1987.   A good dude, although he has issues with cactus.

BullwinkleMuse

The Moose.  One of the best writers on Triond, and a solid dude as well.   Has a driveway in his living room.

cafftee

British woman and hellified poet.  Very friendly.

clafleur

The Preacher.  Literally.  But not one of those obnoxious ones… very respectful in his debating.

David Crerand

A newer member.  Very articulate.  Good conversationalist.

DeistDean

Another new guy.  Like him so far.  Interesting dude.

Duff D Moss

Duff rules.  Australian guy who can write his ass off.. one of the more unique personalities here.

Fegger

Feggers are mythological creatures, known to exist only here and in the wilds of Connecticut.  If you have questions or need advice on writing, the guy’s a genius.

fivegoldstars

Another one of those British guys, and another good guy.  Quick to make you laugh.  Nice butt.

gringoperry

Another of those Brits… kind of like an invasion in here.  Another one definately belongs on everyone’s friend list.

HelloSiti

Siti may very well be insane, but we’re not sure.  She’s from Indonesia, and struggles with English at times, but other than that she’s nuts.  Amusing, though.

Isabella Wulf

A Texas girl with a big mouth and a bigger heart.

Jeff B. Merrow

An absolute jerk.  Avoid him at all costs.

Karen Gross

Downhome Canadian lady.  Nice as can be.

littlekid137

Another good kid.  All of 16, I think.

lynda howard

lynda’s a weird one… kind of a half troll.  decent, once you get used to her.

maranatha

A Triond vet…. intelligent woman who speaks her mind.

Marie Milton

The Puffin Brit woman.  Adorably idealistic, till you piss her off… a sweetie.

Mark Gordon Brown

The other half of B nelson.  Not nearly so much of a nudist.

Mikayla

Triond’s enigma.  Changes her profile often, but you learn to recognize her.  Biting wit, and God help you if you get her angry.  Awesome in spite of (and because of ) that.

Natels

From Wisconsin, and therefore cool.  A musician.

oldster

Old.  but cool anyway. :)

Onlywaytobesure

If you’re an idiot, or plan on saying something stupid, avoid Only.

pablina

Another British chick.  doesn’t come around so much any more, but good to know when she does.

REPuckett

Another old scool Trionder.  Military guy.  We like him cuz we’re afraid of him. ;)

spiritwalker

Triond’s dark queen.  Be afraid.  Run away, especially if you bruise easy.

Shelly Barclay

Princess of Triond.  Recently divorced from Peter Griffin.

Simon Belmont

Resident hip hop expert.   Will speak his mind.

sweetievee

The name says it all.

Stephen J. Ardent

Another interesting dude.

theresacall

another sweetheart.

thestickman

The closest thing we have to an all around Triond expert.

This should help you familiarize you with the forum, at least enough so to navigate your way around.  Good luck, and enjoy this very unique collection of individuals.

If I have forgotten anyone, or missed anything pertinent, by all means add it in the comments.

Good Luck!
