WEBSITE REVIEW SHETOLDME
The Address – http://shetoldme.com/
A great website for promoting your web pages and blogs, where you have to provide a detailed description of the content of the page and why you recommend it. Shetoldme pages carry Google Adsense revenue and can be a fantastic way to promote your own pages and favourite pages visited online. The name suggests someone happening to mention and recommend a site in passing, so the site tries to work on a basis of personal recommendation, and as an extension of simple but effective word of mouth. In reality of course, STM works as any other search engine, other than among the established STM community itself.
Controversially, you now have to pay a modest fee ($1 a month) to be able to add URL’s to the site, which used to be free to use.
The categories you can add your pages to are a little limited, and sometimes adding pages can be slowed down where the site has problems recognizing a genuine web page URL, but mostly it works very well. If you have lots of pages, adding them all one by one can be a slow process.
It’s a colourful site where users can rate and comment on one another’s contributions, much as with Digg and other website evaluation / critique pages. That you can give your site a longer description gives a stronger chance of the site and the Shetoldme link itself being spotted by search engines, and therefore boosting your traffic.
Shetoldme also has a page on Facebook and on Twitter, and a strong communal feel. Talking to other users and rating their contributions is essential to the promotion of your own work, and it’s a great way to find lots of new sites you might otherwise have overlooked.
You add a page title, the link and tags to your Scoop (the name given to each STM contribution, and the page goes quickly online for the community to see and explore.
You get to keep the funds raised by Adsense ads and Shetoldme becomes an essential promotional tool for any serious web writer, blogger or writer.
