If someone wants to find out more information about you where can they go? This is a very interesting question. These networks are very good to be used as nodes, just a small extension of your own main website. They can be used to make some links to your main profile.

Advantages of networks to make a profile:

1. They have standards that make easy for other people to search information about you.
2. They are easy to use, so almost anyone can find you even if they do not know any advanced computer skills.
3. You can connect your profile with other people profiles.
4. You can take advantage of the network SEO skills and fame to be found.

And the Disadvantages are:

1. You have to depend on their mood. If they want to change the whole site, they will do it. If they want to close they will do it.
2. Bad people make fake profiles about you. They can then post misleading information about you, they can use your good name to send nasty messages to other people, they can use your images and your personal information as a weapon to to make those fake profiles even more credible.
3. You have very little control over what you can do in those networks. You cannot show your skills there. You need to comply with their every request.

With your own domain and your own website you have true control over everything you do. If you want to add some more photos you can do it. If you want to show off some of your skills you can do it. If you want to post Demos of your work or some trials you can do it. If you want to make it 100% unique you can do it.

You can do whatever you want with your own profile and people with their own website and taken much more seriously than those with just another profile among millions of other profiles.

Your profile is not going to have billions of page views per month. Then after the painful process they try but fail to make easy you are ready to go. The first thing you need to do after that is to install and activate Wordpress. Most of those companies can do that for you with the push of a button. After having wordpress running it’s time to pick a good template. I would recommend you to buy one for you if you cannot make one. This will make you look 100% genuine and unique.

You can then add any kind of content you want. Add videos about you, add images, add text, make some flash to show off, do what ever you want to do with your website. No one can stop you, no one can make any change to your page except you, no one can ever say “get out of here”! You are your own master now.

Your site will remain there forever as long as you keep paying the bills they will send you. This is the most important aspect because no one will ever ban you “due to inactivity”.
