There are a lot of ways to gain new friends and connect to people. And with the technology we have today, connecting to people has been easier. The emergence of different social networking sites have become popular especially to teenagers as it can be a great way to express themselves. But with a lot of these types of sites in the internet, I have narrowed down my top five and these are:

Twitter

Everybody’s ‘twittering’ nowadays, that they even held a contest on who will be the first to have 1 million followers (leave that to Ashton Kutcher, the ‘Twitter King’), hence it is the most popular social networking sites. If you are not that computer savvy then this is the site for you since it is so user firendly that the only thing that you have to answer is ‘What are you doing?’. Unlike other sites, it doesn’t require too much data or fancy applications to put on your profile. You can update friends and family every second and alco see what they’ve been upto.

Facebook

There are so many things to do with your Facebook account because in this site, the more the merrier! Form your profile information to videos and photos, there is so much you can do in customizing your account. In here, you can tag people in your photos and even get updaated whenever you were tagged in another person’s photo. It also has a feature of Twitter which is called ‘What’s on your mind?’ (The Twitter counterpart of ‘what are you doing?’). Another amazing feature is being able to translate to almost any language. Probably one of the most fun things to do with Facebook is the numerous fancy quizzes you can answer ranging from simple personality test to ‘What Starbucks dring are you?’ and ‘What color Ipod should you be?’. You can also be a part of popular groups of your interest. With Facebook, you will never get bored. You would always like to think of new things to do with it.

MySpace

It is like making your personal website without the burden of building it from scratch. Most celebrities, groups and organizations rely on this site in attracting fans and followers. Aside from being able to customize your own site, you can also share your mood to everyone by selecting an animated expression. The homepage can be a bit disorganized and ‘busy’, but it still has complete features like any other social networking site. Everyone needs to have a ‘Myspace’ account to be ‘in’.

Multiply

The good thing about this site is that you can view all of your friends’ recent updates in your inbox without other unecessary posts. Their user friendly icons can be easily distinguished from blogs to music and photos. Some of its great features include the ‘Events’ section wherein you can post upsoming events so you can inveit everyone in your list. It comes complete with date, venue and description to help you promote your gigs and parties to friends. If you are into blogging, then this site is perfect to showcase your thoughts. Photos on the other hand turn out smaller once uploaded into Multiply so viewing could be blurred and difficult.

Friendster

It is one of the first social networking sites and one of the most popular among teens. You can choose from many cool and fun applications to decorate your profile. Uploading pictures is easy with clear photos that can be grabbed by your friends. Your homepage can be easily cusomized with different backgrounds, font sizes and even cursors. The ‘Bulletin’ section is a way to shout out to everyone in your list as well as make important annonucements and notices. It is continuing to evolve to add more exciting features for users.
