How to Save Picture From New Facebook Photo Layout

Downloading photos from Facebook before was as easy as going to the photo albums(either yours or someone else), choosing the picture you want to save, right-clicking with your mouse, then saving the photo in the directory you wish to.

However, with the recent updates in Facebook photos layout, the manner you browse and save photos change a little. When you want to view photos in an album, they are contained in a new photo viewer. You click on the left and right arrows to navigate among the photos.

Just recently, I wanted to download picture from the Facebook album to put in a blog post, but initially, I got confused how to do it. I tried to right-click on the photo right where the viewer is (my common response when I see a picture that I want to save). However, when the “Save As” dialog box pops up, I couldn’t save the photos. Rather, it will save the whole web page.

Every time Facebook made changes on its layout, it took time to get accustomed to the new feature. So it’s common that it took some time for me to figure out how to do the task. When I able to find out, I actually discovered two ways on how to download the photos. Read on.

First Method:

1.       Login to your Facebook account.

2.      Look for the photo album you want to view. Click on it to expand.

3.      Browse the photos from the Facebook photo viewer and look for the one you want to download.

4.      Look for the words “Download Photo” or “Download in High Resolution” at the bottom left corner of the screen, just below the photo viewer. Click the hyperlink, and you will be asked for folder/location where you want the photo to be saved. Repeat for additional photos you want to download.

Second Method

1.       Login to your Facebook account.

2.      Look for the photo album you want to view. Click on it to expand.

3.      Look for the photo thumbnail of the picture you want to download.

4.      Right-click on the thumbnail then select “Open link in a new tab” or “Open link in a new window”. The single photo will open in a new tab or window, depending on the preference you choose.

5.      Go to the opened tab/window and right-click on the photo. Select “Save image as…” to save the picture to a folder/location you want. Alternatively, click “Download Photo” or “Download Photo in High Resolution” on the bottom right corner of the screen.

6.      You can do the same to the rest of the photos in the album.

When you download a photo, does it notify your friend that you’ve downloaded it? It’s kind of embarrassing if it does that, I want to save a picture of my crush and I don’t want him to know I’ve downloaded it.
