Using a Customized Google Search Engine

Search Engines

From now on you can search only the websites you trust instead of all the junk some webmasters like to give you.

In 2007 Google released what many blogs and major sites called the best Google product ever invented. They thought the world would start to use this new kind of search overnight. The truth is nothing of the sort happened. Why is that? Because people are still not savvy enough… sadly.

Google CSE or Google Coop or Google Custom Search you can call any of these names is a new way of search powered by Google. The idea behind this new way of search is very simple, you can search only your own site, you can even add your custom engine to it, or you can make a search engine that will search just the sites you want.

Let’s say you like computers a lot but everytime you search for something you never get the right answer. And let’s say too that there are a few hundred websites you love to read such as computer magazines and science magazines online and several other websites too.

You can make a search engine with Google CSE to search all and only those websites for any term you want. If you search for “fastest pen drive” for example you will get only results from the sites you added.

The advantages of this new kind of search are many: You will get only trusted results and only from the best websites, if you add only the best sites that is, and you know for sure that what you get is what really is. There are no black SEO people working on a crap website that luckily managed to go to Google top results. You know for sure that you can cite the source of your information with confidence. Finally if your engine manages to become popular you can make money with Adsense and the ads there pay much more per click than Content ads because they are Search ads! Your CTR will be much higher as well too.

The disadvantages are many too. First you need to add all the sites you want one by one. This is a real pain and so far Google did not make any tool to speed up this process. You need to have a list of all the sites you want to have and then copy and paste them all one by one… Another disadvantage is that you may miss some very good information if you did not add a good website, sometimes you might be missing some good facts, or some good sites to search and so on. You need to keep on adding new sites all the time to keep up with quality.

You need to measure all the advantages and disadvantages in order to decide if you should use a CSE for research or just the normal Google search.

I made a good CSE engine called Nyx. It searches well over 100 sites and this number goes up everyday. I want you to contribute to it adding new and ONLY quality sites you might know.

    Hello,

I stumbled upon your Food search engine and I like it. I have two questions I would like to get your feedback on if possible.
1- Do you use Google Adsense for your CSE?
2- If so, does it cover web hosting and domain registration fees?

I made a custom job search engine which I want to use as a normal job search website. But I want to cover my web hosting costs with Adsense. Let me know if that makes sense for you.

    Regards,
    Taf

I do not use any adsense in my engines to be 100% impartial. You do not have to pay any hosting. Google does it.
