The time for translating becomes more efficient, because you do not need to write and think word by word.
When translating softcopy from one language to target language, you can use translator tool provided by Google. “Goggle translate” tool is supporting tool.
Like another translation tools, it needs human touch because when you translate, you focus on meaning and the meaning is not only mathematical pattern of sentences and words. The pattern of sentence and grammatical rule of one language is different to another language.
You can apply the following tips when using ¨Google translate”:
- It is better if you translate the text of softcopy. So, you can copy the text then paste it at the form provided in “Google translate” tool, paragraph by paragraph or sentence by sentence.
- Before submitting the text for translation, check whether you have change the option of source language and target language
- Press “submit” button, then you will have translation at the right side
- Check whether the sentence is properly translated. Check whether the translation word is appropriate to the meaning because sometimes a word may have more than one meaning.
- Check whether it is grammatically correct and has the same meaning of source text
- Copy the translation text and paste to the notepad because you cannot edit it on the Google page
- Don’t copy and paste it directly on the page of Microsoft Word or Open Office because it will also copy the pictorial entity of goggle translation page
- You should use notepad first if you use Windows or use KWrite if you use Linux Mandriva to make sure that you only copy the text
- Copy the text in the notepad and paste it on the MS Word page, if you want to save it in MS Word document
In my opinion, in my experience in translating text from English to Bahasa Indonesia, the “Google translate” tool is not for those who do not understand the source and target language but it is to help those who have understand how to translate.
However, the time for translating becomes more efficient, because you do not need to write and think word by word.
Besides, “Google Translate” can also translate the whole text of Web Page by submitting the url address of the web page.
It aslso provides the dictionary and “translated search.”

Well, there is something funny about google translate. If you translate a complex sentence back and forth between two languages, the result after a few iterations is going to be amazing.

It only does English into another language, not German into French, for example. The max. file size is 1 MB. Not for professional translators. Judging by the quality of the English written by the commentators it is not directed at professional translators. They will have better tools, like Wordfast, on their pc.
