Microsoft and Google

Microsoft and Google

Microsoft has supposedly been offering to pay publishers to remove all their content from Google. If we couldn’t find content on Google then we would be more inclined to search with Microsoft’s Bing. At first look, it’s like sending Publix to stand outside Kroger to say ” We’ll give you money not to go in there.” It might be a little underhanded but Google has 65 percent of the search market while Microsoft only has 10 percent. And as they say, “All’s fair in love and war.”

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer loves playing the villain and fancies his company’s reputation as the world’s most powerful software shop. He’s declared for years to squash Google but Google thumbs their nose at him and gets stronger. Publisher Rupert Murdock might be tempted to take Ballmer up on his buy out proposal. He’s complained about Google getting a free ride on his content.

Google creates summaries of news articles, places ads next to them, and keeps all the money. Google says it’s fair, but even so, media companies are having a hard time while Google has earned over $5 billion profit in the last year. Google’s latest gimmick is making knock offs of Microsoft’s products and giving them away.

Will all this competition be good for Internet users? Well, yes and no. Google makes the software and gives it away to bring people onto the Internet and show them more ads. If users use these cheap or free giveaways, they will be flooded with ads, or pay a premium to escape. Apple recently applied for a patent that forces you to watch their ads by freezing your device in place.

Microsoft and Google’s battle have little to do with helping customers. They are only interested in helping themselves to more of our money that we spend to buy computers and surf the Internet.

The bigger a company gets the greedier it gets. There’s enough for everyone. I guess I would not make a very good business man.

  5. Joie Schmidt says:

Personally, if Microsoft wants to be in competition they should do so fairly… what goes around comes around.

Google rose to the top legitimately… my hats go off to them.

    Blessings.

  12. Who wouldnt want more money? I believe business should be about minimizing expenditure to maximize profits. What Microsoft is doing could back fire for it is like competing with an elephant to defecate and forgetting that you are only human.

  19. Microsoft is slipping, they missed out on the social media trend and now they are missing the boat again on the search engines. If they had not got so comfortable thinking that they had a monopoly they would have stayed on their game and kept up with new technologies developing on the web.

Free Enterprise means that if a company comes up with a better way of doing something than they deserve to get the rewards, Google is constantly evolving and changing so they will continue to get all the money.

Microsoft is too stagnant and try to step into the water after teh fact, they have to be trail blazers and lead the way instead of just trying to pick up the pieces from what has been left behind.
