Google Desktop was one of the best tools available for computers in the past. Not it’s obsolete and close to it’s end. Read how.
Google Desktop is coming to it’s end. At least this is what I suppose because it’s not supported by Google anymore. If you search your desktop with Internet Explorer you will get better results, a time-line, the index status and many more features. If you search the Google with Internet Explorer you will get Desktop results as well.
What does this mean?
Google is working completely towards the concept of Cloud computing. The latest example is the Google Wave which Google says it’s their greatest invention after the Google Search product. Basically it’s a system where you send mesages to friends with photos you can chat, see the online status and so on. I predict it’s going to be a great failure even with Google behind it.
Back to the Desktop, why is Google not supporting it like before? The product does not even work properly for Windows Vista after two long years!!! Today you do not have all your information in the desktop. You can have an Yahoo account or Hotmail account and Google Desktop cannot index it. See the point? GD is somewhat limited. Another ugly thing about GD is you will get a lot of files that make no sense such as files you cannot open and other system text files with content that only another machine can decode. What’s the point of this? Vista Search makes the same stupid mistake. I thought Google had the best brains in the world working on this, it looks like they are not smart people once in while.
Is Google Desktop worth installing today or at least keeping the current installation? If you have windows Xp, yes, if you have Vista then it’s a big NO-NO.
