Google is now much more than a search engine.
Google is not only a search engine it’s an information tunnel! It has so many fun uses this day that you can get lost in time if you try them all. Here are the best ones:
1- Spell Checker. Do you doubt how that specific word is written? Google it, if you write it wrong Google will correct it for you. If you have Google Desktop in your computer you can check any word in less than 3 seconds! Very useful
2- Calculator. Did you know that Google has a great calculator integrated in the engine? I prefer to use Google for some basic operation than Windows Calculator. It’s simpler, funnier and looks better.
3- Alerts. Do you want to know what’s going around with Putin or Sarkozy all the time? With Google alerts you can know instantly the latest news about any keyword you want. Do you want to know the latest about Gold? There you have it. Oil? Dogs? Nanotechnology? You name it.
4- Directions. Google can give you precise directions to whatever you want. Do you want to go from Paris to Porto, Portugal on foot? Google will tell you to go to England then to swim across the Atlantic sea until you reach Portugal.
5- Translate. Do you want to read a Russian website that teaches you how to use a Kalashinikov? Use Google to translate it. You can translate many languages to English.
6- Notebook. Do you want to take notes of websites while you are surfing? Install the Firefox add on to make things even faster and easier. You don’t need to backup anything as it is all stored in Google Servers.
7- Google Talk Labs Edition. More features and some extra options including desktop warnings every time you get a new email or you need to do something in your calendar and your Orkut friends. If you are a fan of instant messaging you might want to try this right now!
8- Google Page Creator. Few people know about this. You can create a single page or an entire website easily just using this tool, it’s free and easy!
9- Google Base. Now you can make any kind of offline information available online easily. If you have a book you want to sell you don’t even need a website. Just upload it and use Google Checkout to sell it. Combinations with Adwords makes a killer!
10- Audio Indexing let’s you search for audio content about any subject you want. If you want to search for an interview for example this is the place to go.
11- Code Search for the real minds there is a lot of code here you can use for whatever you want.

unit converter is good also – google: ‘five miles in kilometers’, for an example. It also knows things like ‘radius of the earth in feet’.

Thanks for the info. I just tried to download a Kalashinikov, but
It didn’t work. I will however try some of the others (I’ve just received a transmission in Klingon which I need to translate- so I’ll try that on Google). Thanks.

How about google’s RSS reader? Don’t know if that fits the theme, but I use it and think everyone should know about it. It’s a seamless intro to using RSS, imo.

Good article, although not funny, just quite useful. Liked it nonetheless. Ever use Google Earth to look for strange things? I found all sorts of nudists colonies, unfourtunately (or fourtunately?) no one was outside naked at the time of the fly-over. They got one in New Jersey. Can you imagune that! New Jersey! I wouldn
‘t even want to be in that state fully clothed let alone naked. Anyhow, thanks for the article.
