Where Do You Get Your Article Traffic From?

It can be difficult to get a stable and reliable traffic source. A lot of writers here will submit to sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, Google, Twitter and Facebook for example, but to get a steady stream of traffic you have to become an active member of these communities. Sure you will get views if you don’t, but you will get many more if you participate.

From personal experience, the best sites for me are StumbleUpon, Twitter, Yahoo and at the moment i am getting a lot from Google. There are many of social bookmarking sites which can be helpful in getting traffic but another way is by using other writing sites like Xomba, Hubpages and RedGage. All three of those have given me more traffic, because their communities are just like Triond where you can earn money from those as well as generating traffic. They are also like Triond because you make friends and develop a fan base.

I have found Reddit to be the best social network source for views. However, it is highly dependent on what the content of the submission is….weird, good food, and outlandish does great. Some of my articles I get thousands of hits from reddit….others I get downvoted to oblivion~ Stumble upon works great for consistent small amounts of views, with an occasional big hitter. Digg and Buzz I have never had much success with. Enviro and green articles do well on Care2.

My traffic comes mainly from search engines and that Outbound Traffic. As long as the seo is done correctly, and some backlinks are generated, readers will come consistently.

  5. I like writing.com. They do not pay, but they award points which can be used to purchase things from their shops or to buy upgraded memberships, (the basic is free). They run numerous contests, have many groups one can join and the there are people who will read and comment on just about everything that is posted. There are weekly newsletters with good writing advice and the moderators of forums and staff of the site are always helpful when ever I have any questions.

  6. Well I don’t know really but I think you are right, the social networking sites are only useful for those who are active on them. A good share.

More than 90% of my traffic sources are from Google. Xomba is the only site I currently use to promote my articles. Tried others but never really successful.

Your tips are helpful, thanks for sharing!

    Great Article!!!

  13. I use facebook and twitter, though I’ve only received 7 views combined from both facebook and twitter in the past 30 days heh. As for stumbleupon, I’m not at all sure of how to use it. I’ve relied on Triond to allow my articles to take off, and so far, a couple have :P One randomly generated 500 views in 4 days, but then died randomly. Not sure what happened there, but I’m not complaining. :P If you could PM me explaining how stumbleupon works, that would be excellent. Nice article, by the way.

Good article. One of the sites I use that is not often mentioned is redgage.com. You get paid there too. About 1 cent per 7 hits but you only have to add link and short description.
