Cashgopher: Be Careful and Consider Uninstalling

Recently a program called cashgopher, where their saying was get paid for doing nothing…well almost nothing, surfaced from a website so many trusted, mylot.  The program is something you install on your computer and let it run and many were eager to test it out as it was from a website so trusted that it would be crazy to miss this opportunity. Recently after some tests have been done by users, some odd things were being noticed.

Now at first when I found out about the program I trusted it like crazy because I mean mylot made it and mylot pays 100% of the time on time. Then after finding out some details about the program I went and uninstalled it. I was making some pretty good money for doing nothing and getting a few popups here and there as the site explains to you will. They were never bad popups but I did notice the link and most of them were redirected to a ptc link, the same type of link that would be found if you clicked on a google ad on any page. I had been using google chrome so I could not see the full effect of the program. After reading up some on a forum, I tested what they said and found it true. They claimed there was an addon in firefox, and that was true, that would load a javascript, and this was true, that replaced all the advertisements on the page with their own advertisements, and this was also true. You can find the javascript overlay in the cashgopher file which you have to search your computer for. I found two versions of it, one for firefox I assume, ff-overlay, and another one labeled just overlay. Also there is a google chrome extension in there that was not automatically installed like the firefox add on.

I am not going to say that them replacing the advertisements is illegal but I am going to say that it is shady because the people with those advertisements work hard to get people to their websites and then you are going to take their money from them. On any regular site visitor without cashgopher the advertisement is usually paid per click, where the visitor clicks on the website owners page if they are interested, and if you run cashgopher they will cover the ad up and when the visitor with cashgopher installed will click on the ads presented by cashgopher onto that site. Now most would not see this as a problem because cashgophers earnings add up each day for the user but if you are the owner of that site and all of a sudden your earning plummet you are going to get a discouraged and or worse.

Another fishy thing with cashgopher is there is no uninstall.exe directly on there and the program will not show up in your program list. You have to go to the control panel and then to uninstall software and find it. This is bad because if a program wants to pass itself as legitimate don’t you think they should give you a simple option to opt out. Yes you can stop it but uninstalling is the final move to opt out.

Now for security threats about the program, yea uh oh time. Some people have reported their anti-virus deny them or popup warning them of a possible virus threat on time of download. I personally have not found this but I did have some components of a JAVA virus. Not sure if they are directly related to cashgopher but its a possibility.

I recommend uninstalling cashgopher for the time being before any more serious problems arise because its better to get out early than too late.  I personally really liked the program but after finding out some of the details I went straight to uninstalling it and I hope you do the same if you have it. If not, I suggest staying away from it for now. If there are any updates about the program I will write another article that will be linked on here later.

*NOTE*-Cashgopher has fixed most issues. Will write another article for an update. so be looking out for it.

Very intresting, I haven’t tried cashgopher yet because I didn’t really think it was for me, and now I kind of think it was just as well…

I did not install it as I was a bit leery about uploading anything because in the past they always caused trouble. So I was going to wait and see what happened to others. Glad I waited!

Looks like they don’t do ad replacements anymore because people had concerns with it, including them.
