The Creative Blogging Process

Part of my plan to reach $3.00 a day blogging on Triond is to post something on my Triond blog every day.

I’m at a distinct advantage to many of my brother and sister bloggers.  I have a secure income that allows me to spend all day blogging.  Of course, when I say I send all day blogging, what I really mean is I spend all day reading, commenting and stretched out on the sofa listening to classic rock-and drinking beer when I can afford it-trying to come up with something to post.  I also do a lot of pacing around and around my small apartment and looking out the windows trying to come up with an idea for a new post.  It’s the same process I went through for years writing very short stories.  Thank goodness.  The process is now inching me closer and closer to three dollars every day.  How?  The articles that I blog have the same structure of the stories I agonized over.  Now I write flash articles.  There must be a setup, a buildup and a payoff.

Many bloggers cannot write good short articles for several reasons.  One reason is, the shorter an article is the deeper it should be.  Now think about that.  It just means the article should have depth.  How do you do this?  Rigorous self-editing.

Also, a very short post must be complete.  Everything that needs to be covered should be covered.

Which brings me to my final point.  To write flash articles a blogger must think like a writer of very short articles.  This is probably the most difficult part of the process because it must be part of the blogger’s constant state of mind.  The blogger must train to think this way and this takes time before it becomes automatic.

Now, I’m just talking about bloggers who want to blog short.  Short blogging does not fit the style or the subject matter of many bloggers.  It fits me.

Maybe it can fit you.

metro7, it’s good to have a plan. A plan keeps you focused. It doesn’t mean the plan is going to work. If it doesn’t work you make adjustments.

  6. Guy Hogan says:

Mr. Ghaz, thank you. I try to write articles that are useful to other people.

I am definitely interested in your advice. I am restructuring always.

Elizabeth, flash fiction can teach a writer a lot of things beyond just writing very short stories. The main thing flash fiction teaches is conciseness of expression which is perfect for the kind of articles I write for Triond.

  17. Guy Hogan says:

A flash article is very short but it must contain all the information that is needed to support the introduction.

There should be an introduction, a middle with supporting information and a conclusion. Just like this article.

  18. And again a great article to help your brother and sister blogger. Very great of you to share. I was reading your blog the other day on how you want to make 3.00 a day. This inspired me. I don’t have much time to work on this but, I figure I can get up every morning and put something down. This will help me to get the creative juices flowing and start my day with a clear head. My goal is to be making .50 a day by the 1st of the year and then I will go from there. Be better if I could get more then that but I am starting out so i don’t expect much.

Thanks again and good luck with your goal.

  19. Guy Hogan says:

Adam, that’s the right idea. Set a goal that you have a chance of reaching; you will learn all kinds of things reaching the goal of 0.50 a day. Then you will have a better ideas of how to reach $1.00 a day and so on. Good luck.
