From a Forum Thread to a Top Blog Site

They say that “every journey begins with a single step”. For the members of the The Filipino Diaspora, that single step was the forum thread in Triond entitled “SINONG MGA KABABAYAN DITO?” (“Who are my fellowmen here?” in English translation).

The forum thread has been active since its conception. It was on its third thread when mostpopulararticle (or MPA as we call him), a fellow Triond writer and a visitor to the forum thread, offered to create a blog site for the regular members of the said thread. It was very timely because everyone has long wanted to level up by creating our own site where all our Triond article links shall be posted and promoted. It was an idea whole-heartedly embraced by everybody, but due to lack of the technical know-how, it remained as an idea… Until MPA stepped in and made the offer.

But it was not all cheers at all.  There was a strong debate whether to let a foreigner run a site for Filipino bloggers. How about the income from advertisements? What shall be the rules and regulations? Even the selection of the title went through a meticulous and long process. But “all’s well that ends well.” The blog started publishing posts by the second week of February, with the official title “The Filipino Diaspora: Kabayan Tambayan Online”.

The site went through several modifications and alterations. Everybody went through a dozen phases to effectively promote Triond articles. There was reluctance at the beginning due to difficulties encountered. But typical of Filipino characters, everyone persisted and finally succeeded.  It was a learning process. And it was worth all the time and effort. Mabuhay!

The Filipino Diaspora is presently one of the leading blogs in the Philippines. It receives a thousand views each day, a figure too good for a site less than a month old. Though its pioneering members are Filipinos, it also welcomes foreign friends to become members of the community. Simply knock the door and it shall open.

Indeed, the site’s title served its purpose well. It’s a Diaspora and a journey – a united move of Filipino bloggers from a plain Triond forum to an important blog site. All under a common desire. To write… To be published… To be read… And to influence.
