Blogging: What’s Your Blogging Persona?

Have you heard of Andy Warhol?  Andrew Warhola was born in 1928 and died in 1987.  He was a Pittsburgh boy.  As a matter of fact I’ve walked past the house he lived in several times without even knowing it.  I know it now because of his profile on Wikipedia.  I’ve visited the Andy Warhol Museum here in Pittsburgh a couple of times.  I’ve seen a couple of films by Warhol and even was an original subscriber to Interview, his newspaper-like publication about culture, art and celebrity.

Andy Warhol was all about persona.  He made his reputation in presenting objects of consumerism as art.  He made celebrity his subject matter.  Who can forget his silk screening of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and Elizabeth Taylor?  His painting, “Eight Elvises” sold for $100 million.

Bloggers must also present a persona to the public that the public will react to.  The reaction can be good or bad.  The idea of a blogger’s persona is just to keep the public coming back.  I have a persona on my blog.  I’m the Old Soldier.  I’m literally an old soldier because I served in Vietnam.  But the Old Soldier is also friendly and helpful, giving off blogging and writing tips and creating a community of like minded readers, writers and bloggers.

The Old Soldier trys not to come off as a know it all.

Writing and blogging is at the heart of my blog.  And through the writing I also want to entertain.  My persona is of someone who has been around and knows what he’s talking about when it comes to writing and blogging but who also has a sense of humor not only about life but about himself.

I hope my persona will some day make me famous for at least 15 minutes.

My blog is the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.

The Old Soldier fits me. I was thinking of calling my blog persona The Professor but that seemed too intellectual. There’s nothing wrong with being intellectual but Old Soldier is more down to earth.
