Blogging: Don’t Quit Your Day Job

Humphrey Bogart is one of my favorite actors.  Many of us may remember Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon and the African Queen.  Usually, he played a good guy.  But often he played a bad guy, too.  This may have been Humphrey Bogart’s appeal to movie fans.  There were good things and bad things about the characters he played.

Blogging is pretty much the same.  There are good things and bad things about blogging and being a blogger.

I think bloggers like several things about blogging.  The sense of accomplishment.  The sense of communicating with others.  The sense of being your own boss.  And there is the sense of being on a stage, of bringing the world to you.  There is the sense of creation, a very important sense.

There are bad things about blogging and being a blogger.  The fact that promoting your blog will take more time than creating content if you hope for your blog to prosper.  The fact that even if you have great content and you promote like crazy the subject of your blog may have only a limited audience.  And there is also the fact that even if you make a little money, it will never be equal to all the time and effort you put in to keep your blog up and running.

I consider myself a professional blogger.  I’m retired so I can blog all day.  My goal is to make $30.00 a day from blogging.  That’s my goal.  That’s what I’m working towards.  No, I’m not insane.  I know it will probably never happen.  But that’s my goal.  A blogger has to take the good and the bad when it comes to blogging.

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.

My blog is the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette

  6. I wish you luck with your goals. I am sure with all the hard work you put in it will be possible. I shall be lucky if I make that in a year.

I think that anyone with goals in life is smart. It motivates you to keep on writing. You are a good writer and professional blogger so I am going to have to disagree with you that it probably won’t happen. I think it will happen for you:)

  14. Keep up the good work. Goals are great but like children they should be allowed to grow. Keep that in mind when you reach your goal.
