All About Google Blogger: A History of Blogger

If you are interested in getting into blogging, Google Blogger is one of the best options available as far as blogging platforms are concerned.  Not only is Google Blogger extremely user-friendly, it is free too.  As it may not be the case that Google is taking over the world as many believe, Google as a brand name and an immovable force on the Internet is a great name to back up your blogging efforts.  As popular as Google Blogger is now, you can bet that its popularity will only increase as the power of Google does as well.

History

Blogger was launched in 1999 by Pyra Labs and was intended on being a platform completely dedicated to blogging; one of the first of its kind.  Little did the creators know what their product would grow to become.  As a matter of fact, Blogger has often been credited with ushering in the blogging trend on the Internet.  People from all over the world began jumping on to the blogging train by taking advantage of the easy-to-use Blogger blogging platform.

What is a blogging platform?

You may now be asking yourself, “What is a blogging platform, exactly?”  A blogging platform or blogging software is best described as the nuts and bolts of publishing your content and making it available to the world.  Some of the better known blogging software are Blogger, TypePad and WordPress.  After you enter your content into blogging software such as these, it formats, dates and archives it.  Blogging software, basically, gives your content a home on the Internet.  It is an alternative to shelling out the dough to create your own professional looking website.  The birth of blogging bolstered by the popularity of Blogger makes it easy for, literally, anyone to become a blogger and join an online community known as the blogosphere.

You should look at blogs as being akin to diaries.  Whereas a website offers a static message to its visitors, a blog tells a story in reverse chronological order and that story is completely up to the blogger.  Blogs started off as simple diaries of the blogger who would post what is going on in their lives.  However, they have grown to encompass professional blogging where people use blogs to earn money through advertising.  A blog could be used by a business that would post updates of company growth, new products offered, etc.  Blogs have even been used to launch new careers by the blogger using it as a resume of sorts to highlight their expertise.

Blogs are so versatile that one can bring literally any topic to the world for any reason and Google Blogger helps you to do just that easily and almost instantaneously.  Whether you’re blogging for money or to just get your thoughts and ideas out there, Google Blogger gives you the tools and resources to make your blog appear as if it were maintained by a seasoned professional.  There are, of course, some trade secrets involved that will boost your presence in the blogosphere, but we will touch on those later in this series.  In the next article of the series we will learn where Google comes into the Blogger platform and its benefits.
