All About Wikipedia Collaborating.

More than 40 trillion spam emails were sent during 2008. For some companies e-mail is not the best tool to organize information and collaborate with various working groups, says James Gaskin in his recent article in The New York Times. The innovation starts with changing the way of doing things and adapting new tools. Wiki is one of them.

Wiki, as defined by Wikipedia, is a page that anyone can edit. Wiki is a Hawaiian word meaning quick. Some of the benefits of a wiki are that it allows the exchange of information called “open editing” of different teams at various points of entry, regardless of distance or borders.

The Wiki provides a platform to manage data, PDFs, photos, presentations, information sheets and excel through free access or appointment of key individuals in an organization previously authorized. A Wiki is like a building with many rooms. You can control the entrance to the building, leaving the door wide open, unlocked, but restrict access to certain rooms.

The Wiki is a tool that can contribute to the inside of a company in order to revitalize the business model of a brand, re-creating a concept or a new philosophy with the participation of multiple people.

The new model of ‘co-create and collaborate’ is replacing the old practices’ push and sell. Now, marketers understand the importance of integrating a wiki or ‘virtual corridor’ to the architecture of corporate marketing or product to generate community, energize audiences, or reinvent products.

Wikipedia is built with the help of thousands of people, who for their own reasons decides to write an article in this encyclopedia. Some do it to help others, others to show how much you know, others to be the first in something, and infinite more personal reasons. Despite what the reasons are, there is no doubt that Wikipedia has created a large community that is based on sharing and creating a very in depth knowledge base of any subject through an online collaboration.

Wikipedia is a comprehensive encyclopedia available in hundreds of languages and Dialects, and maintained by the community itself from the Internet (you yourself can add an entry). Note that due to this freedom of expression with little administration, Wikipedia through the years has been filled with articles of all kinds of propaganda and lies or incorrect data, however despite this the fact is that a lot of the data is useful and correct, so the articles are still referenced daily by millions of people around the world
