Four Things to look out for when searching the internet with your (very) vulnerable eyes.
Ever since internet was born in the late 1940’s, it has been used for more and more things. First it started for communication, sharing files, and now for entertainment. It is used for some games, for websites, and for Instant Messaging. Now because it has gotten to the point where internet users need antivirus, ad control, and pop-up control, I figured I’d share some of my thoughts, and the truth, about internet. Here are some things to look out for and how to prevent them!
- Viruses/Downloads: Modern technology allows file sharing publicly, not a bright idea. You must be careful with downloads such as music, videos, games, programs, or whatever else you might be downloading! Some people inject their files with a virus; let’s just say a file that permanently screws up your computer. I have no clue why someone would want to do that to an innocent person, but it happens. Nowadays, there are programs called Antivirus Programs that prevent, or kill, viruses. If you are planning on downloading a file, be careful! Make sure the site you are downloading from is certified and has permission to share the file. If a website looks sloppy or somewhat suspicious, do not download the file. For example: a website like Microsoft.com, of course they will not have viruses it’s a multimillion dollar company. They are professionals and do not care for viruses either. But, downloading files that are from someone’s personal computer could be a virus!
- Pornography: Probably the worst thing you could encounter, besides a virus, is pornography. You will probably get a virus if you encounter porn so it doesn’t matter anyways! It is sick, very sick, and no one cares for it. All those ads, pop-ups, and bad links from other website. Whoever invented porn on the internet is a bad, bad person. Although with file sharing it was bound to happen, there are still very useful ways to avoid it! First of all, be careful what you search, don’t be searching for things that could be mistaken for other words. Be very precise and try to search only for things that you really need to be searching for. Sometimes the less you use internet the safer it is! Another good idea is to buy or download from a safe website, a pop-up blocker or an adware blocker. Most web browsers already come with a pop-up blocker and most you can even change the settings so you won’t encounter anything bad at all!
- Influence: It seems to be that some things advertised or seen on the internet influences people to do things just like advertisements in real life! This is not good; however some influences are for the best. Certain sites may promote bad things though, and are not to be looked at.
- Gross pictures or videos: These, if bad enough, can be just as bad as porn. Some website contain bad images and pictures that are to gruesome to describe in a safe informative piece of writing. If you ever encounter one, you will know right away not to ever go back.
Staying Safe
Here is a small list of little ideas that can make a big change to how you surf the internet and avoid bad things like in the list above.
- Buy and install an antivirus. (For those times when you branch of onto a bad website and perhaps download something bad. It happens to the best of us!)
- Change your web browser’s settings to maximum safety. The new internet explorer has very good safety options and can help you avoid anything bad.
- Make sure to put the list of entire bad websites you encounter onto a list in your internet explorer properties. You can 100% block them from ever glaring on your screen!
- Avoid those words! Sometimes a small word makes a big difference. People nowadays seem to have sick minds. Am I the only one that knows this? No! It seems that the more specific you search on a website, the better results you will get. If you can, use some good vocabulary when you search. Or, if you need something very specific, go straight to an online dictionary, encyclopedia, or an atlas. Remember, if you don’t have to use a search engine, use an direct link.
That’s all I have for now and I hope this helps some of you that are fed up with all those bad things internet turned out to have. If you have any questions please comment ill try to help!
