Have you published content lately and noticed that one of the top referring sites pushing traffic to your article is traffic.outbrain.com? Never heard of them? Me neither, until recently. This article will help to better explain how Outbrain works and why it is beneficial.

Outbrain was beneficial to me before I even tapped into its full potential. It has helped my content gain exposure to a much larger audience. But most importantly, it reaches people who are truly interested as it is very subject specific. This is a bonus as readers do not like to be bombarded with useless spam. Outbrain list its two main goals as: helping people discover great new content to read online and helping web publishers and bloggers grow their business by doing right by their readers. So what does that mean? I will do my best to explain.

Outbrain seeks out quality blogs and article content on the web and recommends it to a readers who will truly enjoy it. Online search engines have been designed to help users locate what they know they want. The problem is, how do you find amazing new content if you don’t know it exists? Outbrain has put its focus on helping bloggers and article writers with great content get discovered.

Unlike your typical widget, Outbrain concentrates on personalizing algorithms in order to present each person with those hidden gems of content that are interesting to him or her as an individual. This method is more precise as one of the most challenging aspects of creating a great content discovery engine is overcoming the fact that no two people are alike.

Next, Outbrain helps to eliminate the clutter that often surrounds the content you publish. For example, I recently found a wonderful article on mountain bike trails. The problem was all the other display ads and videos playing on the page. It was frustrating. I have published articles to sites that were riddled with these same problems. These ads are created to produce revenue, but at some point enough is enough.

If you publish great content, people want to read it rather than be distracted by all the other propaganda. With Outbrain you can make money and keep your loyal readers happy, helping them discover great content without the added frustration. Outbrain does this in two ways.

First, Outbrain helps people find more of the content you publish that they may not have discovered independently. This gives the writer higher page view count and more traffic, helping to monetize through existing channels. Second, Outbrain allows you to turn on sponsored recommendations. Instead of having useless pop ups surrounding your content Outbrain will display links from external sites in relevant areas that your readers will actually enjoy. When readers click, you get paid. The main difference being, when they click, they actually link to quality content rather than spam.

During my short experience with Outbrain I have been very pleased and recommend it to publishers and bloggers alike.
