Trolls seem to be the top of most discussion boards today. Learn about the truth and fiction of this dreadful creature.
I remember the story of “Three Billy Goats Gruff” as a child. It was the one about the three Billy goats of different sizes that wanted to cross the bridge to get to the grass on the other side. Unfortunately, the bridge was home to a large, mean troll. Bravely, the small goat crossed first and was approached by the fierce Troll who threatened to gobble him up. He promised the troll that his much larger brother would be crossing next and the Troll was tricked into waiting for the bigger meal. The troll allowed the small goat to cross. The middle Billy goat, of course, did the same thing. However, the largest Billy goat was as fierce as the troll and killed the troll. And the goats lived happily ever after. The moral of the story was ”Go pick on someone your own size!”, or was it a message of equality wins.

A troll is a fearsome member of a fairy-tale anthropomorphic race from Scandinavia, mostly Norway. Their role ranges from fiendish giants, similar to the ogres of England – to a wily, more human-like folk of the wilderness, living underground in hills, caves or mounds. Depending on if the troll is from the forest or mountains, the forest sometimes likes to hide deep springs or rivers. Originally more or less the Nordic counterpart of giants, although much smaller in size, the fierceness of Trolls are told be something to fear. A troll is a creature of prodigious strength and immense stupidity. Trolls generally reach a height of twelve feet and weigh up to a ton. But has today’s world come up with a different depiction of this fiendish giant?

Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no positive characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, “Ignore him, he’s just a troll.”
