Enough!
Enough, already. It seems like every day, someone else publishes another “The Triond forum sucks” article. We get it, already. If you write an article about the forum, you get views. Say it sucks, you’ll get some comments. It may even land you on the Hot Content List. (Funny how many people land there for the first time with either one of these or a ‘how I mastered Triond’ piece). Good lord, people… have we all run out of subject matter? Are we drained of originality?
But, for the sake of arguement, let’s discuss the people who are genuinely displeased with the forum. There are some points that need to be made, and no one seems to want to put them out there…
First of all, this is a young forum. Forums are microcosms of society, and evolve as such. This particular one has done so, and contrary to popular belief, it isn’t doing so in a way that is much different than other unmoderated forums at the same point in their evolution. There are the beginnings of a hierarchy, a loose set of forum rules, social congregating, and even a rudimentary political system taking shape. And it will continue to evolve. Take some time to stop imposing moral codes on a community that is a model of free speech, and watch. It’s a marvelous social experiment, especially if you jump in.
Second, it seems as though the majority of the complainers are making hasty judgements. Is there a good measure of crudity in the forum? Certainly. But there is a genuine exchanging of ideas that takes place. The vast majority of what I know about publishing and promoting, I learned in the forum, and I do fairly well. There is a level of raw communication that takes place in an unmoderated forum such as this that I would choose over nearly any other online mecca. Perhaps if people spent a bit less time trying to mold the forum to their own standards and instead looked past what they consider to be ‘undesireables’ (and for the record, they’re in every forum) they might learn some as well.
The bottom line here is that Triond isn’t going to moderate if they don’t have to. There is a lot of time and resources that go into a moderated site. There is absolutely no reason for them to; from a financial point of view it would actually be a piss poor idea. And aside from a vocal minority, the forum seems to be doing just fine. So regardless of how many indignant emails and articles you put out there, the practicality here is that nothing’s going to change.
To be honest, I’m not sure (rational arguments aside) why people make such a stink about this. I hate soccer. I love baseball. I am a member of several baseball forums; i am not a member of any soccer forums. It isn’t a secret how this one runs… you wouldn’t go to a cooking forum, or a sports forum (which can be far more offensive than triond, I assure you) and try to change the way they run. Why do you presume to do so here? Sounds a bit arrogant to me.

Well said.
Would you go to Portugal for a holiday if you didn’t like the Portuguese?

Couldn’t agree with you more. It seems there are a lot of unhappy people out there.

I couldn’t agree more if i tried! just reminds me of a very old joke one of Tommy Coopers favourites…Man goes into his doctor and says, “everytime i raise my right arm it hurts” the doctor replies “Then dont do it!” if you dont like Triond don’t use it i love it myself.

I only went on to the forum once and everyone was swearing, I laughed my head off and left!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Well, if you got rid of that Mnofdichotomy character, things might go a bit smoother in there

I have only check out the forum a few times but appreciate the points you have brought to our attention.

The forum? Never been there.

You’re banned mo.

Darn, you went out writing and left nothing for me to say!
Hehe, good one Bo!

I am on another forum that is moderated. It is so completely governed that you can barely say anything. I responded to a thread about nursing care with a reference to a woman bathing, and it was deleted for unlawful content. You know me, Mn, and can imagine just how crass and filthy my comment must have been… not!
Our forum does get crass at times, but the bottom line is that we have the choice to play or not to play – and to choose where and with whom we play. How do you improve on that?

I agree.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
‘Can’t we all just get along?’ is the common thought i have in my mind when going through the forums. So yeah, I couldn’t agree more

You are crass and intolerable; and have no right to be writing about unmoderated forums. blah blah blah, bladi blah blah…and just one more thing…BLAH! Really though, well said.

The forum can be a place to amuse one’s self when you get tired of writing.
November 5th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
I agree, I wrote an article a while ago about the forum that described the same points as you.
November 5th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Now we all run to the forum to see what everyone is bitching about..Way to go! LOL

I just wish someone would delete the blatant spam.A mix of good and bad is okay, but the off topic junk needs to go, it just makes the forum slower to use and puts me off using it.

I haven’t been to the forum. Now I’m curious.
