The internet is a useful tool in the field of education.

The internet is the best source of reference ever, a pool of information accessible twenty four hours over twenty four hours anytime anywhere. There are no limits and no geographical barriers anymore. Should anyone need an instant updated information on a particular subject? He/she does not need to travel further than his/her computer. All specific details are already available up there and for free.
There is no doubt that the internet will constantly be the most helpful material in education. The way we educate ourselves has not changed but have been enhanced thanks to the internet. Students, researchers, stay- at-home mum…everybody uses the internet. Compare to other media sources, like books, television and newspapers which feed us with information but without any possibility to respond back, internet on the contrary is interactive, it allows you to chat, participate into forum, share your views and express thoughts.
The Internet is an alternative to university if you can’t afford to pay huge amount of money to study. Degree courses on a variety are subjects are offered online at a more affordable price. You are free to set up your own time and learn at your own convenience. All the hustle and bustle of traffic jam and late arrivals in class are avoided. Internet allows you to chat with your teacher and interact with other student through video conference.
Based on my own experience. I have done a three and a half year research and study on the subject of E-commerce and Internet marketing within the comfort of my house, simply by means of the internet. Money was an issue and I could not afford such a study at university which would have cost € 8000 to €10,000 a year. After three and a half years I have learned a lot. Although it was not systematic study as it would be at university, I have had enough information to understand the whole concept of E-commerce. I haven’t done any exams so far but I have learned a great deal and have started my online business already. I might in the future take part in an E-commerce exam but only if needed. Even if I decided to study E-Commerce at University now, it would not be that difficult as I already learned a lot on this subject from the internet.
One main point to remember though, even if we learn a lot from the internet, even if it continues to be a useful tool in the field of education, we should be careful not to make it the only source with regards to educating ourselves. As I mentioned above it has not changed the way we educate ourselves it only enhanced it. There are primary sources to learn from. Libraries, documentaries on television, newspapers, friends, debates/discussions should be prioritised. After all we cannot be cut off from everything and everybody and isolate ourselves with a computer, after several years we might go nuts. The internet should remain a source of reference to help us reach the unreachable. You don’t need to travel to Egypt to obtain information on the pyramid or go to India to get a good Indian recipe. That doesn’t mean that we should stop travelling but when it comes to study, information is available at home.
