The Hidden Secrets of Flickr

There is a lot more to Flickr than most people realize. It isn’t just a site for uploading and viewing pictures and videos.

When a photo is uploaded to Flickr the system automatically makes a note of the camera that was used to take the shot. This information is used to make graphs which indicate how popular different models are.

If you go to   www.flickr.com  there is a drop-down menu showing these figures.

To upload to Flickr Video you need a Pro account but it’s still free to view the video clips on the system, unless they have deliberately been made ‘private’ by the person who uploaded them. The rules on this site are strict and relentlessly enforced. All content must have been generated by the user who uploads it and video clips must be less than 90 seconds in length.

If you want to organise photos and video together Oganizr will help you to do this. Simply go to  http://www.flickr.com/photos/organize   All you have to do is to drag and drop the items where you want them.  There are other useful things to here too. Reorder pictures, or groups, add photos to group collection, or even plot images on a map.

To look at the photos that have been added to the map go to http://flickr.com/places.

You can look at a location and see the photographs that have been taken in that place. Browse using the map, or enter place names into the search facility.

It is also simple to email your photos to Flickr once you have an account. Each day Flickr chooses a photograph to feature on its calendar. Just clicking on the date will show the picture, plus others chosen for a particular date.

If you intend to use Flickr pictures in articles, on websites, or other wise, you will need to check the copyright for each individual photograph. Photographs and videos posted here are not automatically free to use.
