People relieve stress in a number of ways but sometimes all you have is the PC in the corners and the internet connection. Fortunately there are plenty of stress busting sites out there in the cloud. Here are ten surefire stress busting sites – you are bound to find one that suits both your temper and your temperament.
Shoot it!
You may have had a hard day at the office. You may be stressed by life in general. So, upload a picture of whatever is stressing you and take a few pot shots at it! Who knows, it may stop you from having your very own “I don’t like Mondays” type of day in the future! In this instance I have placed a picture of myself and have shot at that which gave me the most peculiar feeling! Fun. Sick, but fun and certainly something that might de-stress! What may be going through your mind right now? Possibly a question… “Where is that picture of my ex / my boss / my mother that I had?”
Snapper De-Stresser
If you are at work and feeling stressed then you may well want to revert to simpler, less stressful times. Remember those snappers you used to have so much fun with at school? Well, why not try an online version that you play with an equally stressed out colleague? You will be given a variety of tasks to do according to your choice of snapper color and number – and they may well raise some eyebrows. However, you will find yourself much calmer at the end of it. Sacked, but calmer!
Drum Kit
Some people do not need peace and quiet in order to de-stress – they need noise – and lots of it! Well, if you do not have the real thing, why not slip your headphones on (or just lever those speakers up to full volume) and take away the cares of the day by playing on this virtual set of drums. One to possibly annoy everyone around you, this will certainly let you release those tensions! You’re never going to be Cozy Powell but you won’t care!
Toilet Paper
There is nothing quite like unrolling toilet paper but unfortunately, unless you are a cute puppy in a commercial you will probably not get away with it. Fear not! Here you can unroll that paper right to the end without the fear of being told off by someone in a high pitched voice. This is an extremely satisfying non-event. You don’t even have to worry about wrapping it all up again or the environment – or anything!
Sand Pile
This page allows you to create a sand pile. You choose your color and then start sprinkling the page with sand. As it starts to pile up you can change the color, create little mountains and sprinkle your sand happily and blissfully, forgetting the strains of the day. This de-stresser is for those who wish to take their minds of whatever is stressing them rather than taking things out on it! Absolutely mindless, you can happily build your sand structures for hours.
Make Simple Music
It may look like a Lego brick gone mad but if you click the nodules you will get a simple tune (Japanese style) that plays again and again. This is very simple but very hypnotic – about the only thing you can do (apart from set your own tune) is to change the beats per minute. However, keeping things simple is at the center of the art of de-stressing! You may find yourself on this site for hours!
De-stress in three dimensions
This is an optical illusion but it is a great one. You can create a number of sphere spirals which then rotate (or seem to!) around three hundred and sixty degrees. This is in fact very clever DHTML, but it may fool you in to a state of wonder that will leave all your worries behind you! Just sit there and watch your creation spin and spin and spin – and spin.
Bubblewrap
Bubblewrap is great in the real world to get rid of everyday stress. Unfortunately you might find yourself out of the real thing. Then pop in to the virtual world and continue the fun there. If you are not satisfied with the one pop at a time mode you can change this so that with a single sweep of a mouse you will pop as many bubbles as your mouse touches. This is the full screen version, so you get nothng to distract you – just a monitor full of ‘dem bubbles’. Aaaah!
Tom and Jerry
Games can relieve the stress of the day and hopefully this one will! You can choose you character – either Tom or Jerry – and then your job is to save as many plates from falling as possible. You need to be fairly dexterous with the mouse to do this on any other but the ‘easy’ speed but you will discover that your own worries will fly away as you get to grips with saving those plates! If you enjoy relieving your stress by replacing it with, well, stress of another kind, then this may well be for you!
Knock at the Door
This site simply asks you a few questions which may help you to rediscover yourself when you are stressed and remind you that you have more important goals in life. A very sweet Irish lilt plays in the background and you may feel the stress of the day peeling back as you consider what your priorities in life really should be.

The toilet paper one was particularly cute for me, as my 2 year old is going through the phenomena of of ‘how many times in a day can mommy screech at me?’ I just had to keep doing that one over and over..lol!

RJ – You are hereby given the “Most Politically Correct Writer on Triond” award for putting your own picture on the “Shoot it” picture link.
I bet I wouldn’t use my own face (or your either) for taking a shot at to destress myself. Anyone sane enough to read your lovely articles would definitely have someone else they’d love to shoot at – viz. bosses, mothers-in-law, exes, politicians or school bullies.
