Most People would think of an invisible ink as simply lemon juice or those UV pens but actually they’re not the only things that work. Anything organic (animal- or plant-based) that is clear or almost clear can be used as a heat-activated secret ink. To put it simply, being organic basically means containing carbon, and also carbon things will burn. For example lemon juice, milk, egg white and even urine will work as a secret ink, (though i wouldn’t suggest using urine to send a secret message to your girlfriend ).

In my first attempt i used milk and simply wrote on the paper with a small paintbrush. Once it had dried i held it directly to a flame for a few seconds making sure the whole message was bathed in flame while also avoiding setting the paper on fire. The letters appeared as if by magic.

Also when your sending secret messages using this method make sure that the receiver knows how to reveal the message. Try to also write a cover up message next to it or on top of it. This means that anyone who reads the letter or note will think it’s just a casual post card or meaningless banter.

This is a really fun way to communicate with friends without anyone knowing. You could even make a painting that appears in heat and disappears in the cold.
