Remember Those Chat Rooms?

Internet chat rooms were at their pick in the late 1990s and early 2000s with mllions of people flawing them. Now, being gradually abamdoned and forgotten, we remember them with some nostalgia.

Back in the day in late 90’s and early 2000’s  the Internet was so in vogue people used to flaw Internet chat rooms like they were daily medications. Internet service providers like AOL and Yahoo were the most visited sites and their chat rooms were always crowded.

Who wouldn’t have paid $21.99 to AOL just for some daily hours of chat room adventures back in 1999? $ 21.99 now sounds like an exaggerated fee for Internet access and with no security extras, but in 1999 this fee made AOL owners billionaires.

Chat rooms always had their magic. Overweight housewives with financial and family problems would represent themselves as fun loving and outgoing women with “nice legs” and “big boobs”. While chunky over 50 years old men would represent themselves as athletic club goers who enjoyed an amazing and fun social lifestyle.  Chat rooms were means for easy and relatively safe sexual “hook ups”. They were discreet and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not like nigh clubs that open at certain hours and days.  Chat rooms have been gradually left to some “chat robots” and other sex oriented merchandisers.

Few people now take time to go into these chat rooms. With the use of cell phone text messages and the access to the Internet on cell phones, traditional chat rooms have been disappearing. But those who are between 30 and 45 now remember the golden era of the Internet chat rooms and like me, they look back with certain nostalgia.
