Internet porn is now a pop-up ad.
I was on an internet gossip sight doing research for an article on President Obama and racism (see my article called “Am I a Racist for Disagreeing with President Obama?”) when my pop-up blocker failed to work and an unsolicited ad for “Hot Asian Women” suddenly appeared on my screen. There were about a dozen pictures ranging from the simply suggestive girl in a tight, low- cut T-shirt to several pictures that would make my gynecologist blush. I was dumbfounded, disgusted and a little angry to say the least. A porn site was the last thing I expected or wanted to see.
The incident reminded of something that happened to me in 2000. I had recently been laid off and was getting unemployment. My local unemployment office had given me a list of websites to look at and, hopefully, to send a resume’. One of the websites was supposed to be for the White House, but it turned out to be a porn site instead. Was my unemployment counselor trying to tell me something? Or, maybe it was actually the White House’s website. After all, it was 2000 and Bill Clinton was president.
All jokes aside, this recent ad got me to thinking about porn and the internet. Everyone knows that there a gazillion porn sites on the internet. It scares me to think that some are now in the form of pop-up ads and they can pop-up at anytime and in front of anyone, including children. The ad I saw reared its ugly head on a gossip site where teen girls go to get their daily dose of celebrity news. You simply cannot get away from porn even if you wanted to do so. And you wonder why our kids grow up so fast.

your point, haley? If you are referring to the fact that I did not include my own opinion of porn as a woman, I purposely did not write it. The woman’s opinion is well known and has been written about often. My first thought when I saw the ad was what if I were a teenage girl seeing this stuff. That was the point of my article; I did not want to reguritate the same article on the woman’s perspective of porn.

your article is correct. i read it completely and i also think that some sites which must not appear do appear by pop ups.

It happened once while my granddaughter was on my computer. She yelled grandmother and was sitting there with her hands over her eyes when I got into the room. It’s a terrible thing to happen. And I have no idea how that pop up came on.
