An article about the recently established pirate parties.

Sweden , Romania , Australia , Denmark , UK , Serbia … Who is next ? All these countries have their pirate parties. We are living in a world where almost everyone has access to the internet .  Access to the internet means access to everything : movies , software , music , books and so on. The problem comes when these things are available to download for free via P2P or file-hosts. Most of these downloads are illegal copies of the original product. Everyone is tempted to download something for free , especially in this economical crisis everyone prefers to get something for free instead of paying. People say that downloading from the internet for personal usage should be legal. They also say that people who download and then sell these products are the real pirates and they should be the ones sent to jail or fined.Problem is that the anti-piracy groups are hunting everyone , including individuals who simply download a song from the internet.

That’s why the pirate parties are popping up in every country. These parties are trying to infiltrate their representatives into the political system and change the law in favour of the millions of downloaders. They fight for privacy and freedom of speech. So far only the Swedish pirate party managed to get a huge support in Sweden and they sent a representative into the European Parliament. This is huge achievement for the party. The pirate parties from the other countries are trying to achieve the same thing. Maybe in a few years they will change the copyright laws in many countries.

The big question is : will they succed ?

Only time can answer this question.
