My take on some of the most popular online gifting communities and swapping sites.
I just cant stand to see good things get thrown away, or dropped off at the local donation center that then sells well used things for almost new prices, that’s not good will to me.
I was thrilled when I discovered web based gifting communities. These communities are dedicated to passing along good things to others with no transfer of money. Is good for the pocket book, and it keeps things out of landfills. Don’t forget to offer things, some gifting communities wouldn’t let you accept a gift until you gave one.
If you have a yahoo id you can join these groups. Here are a couple I found.
Freecycle
Go to this web site and enter you zip code into the search field. It will bring all the freecycle groups for your area. I have joined and used several and have been pleased.
Freesharing
Click your state on the map and follow the links. Doesn’t have any groups for Indiana but hopefully that will change
If you search the yahoo groups category recycling you will find plenty more.
Freeswapper
Similar to freecycle but not a yahoo group. You sign up for this one but the cool thing is you don’t give your address during registration you simply click on the general area of the map you live and they only show you ads that are within the radius you pick. It has its own message system so you don’t have to use your email address. And lots of extras like, a personal profile, chat, discussion boards and groups. The only problem I have found with this site is I think I am the only member from this area. I hope more people join this one so it can get going in this part of the country.
Swapping sites seem really interesting too. Some have a small transaction fee, some don’t. I bet someone could find a swapping site for anything they liked.
Swapathome
Post items for coupons, then use coupons to get items posted by other members.
Paperbackswap
This seems interesting for book lovers! Join get 2 book credits, send a book get a book credit. All you pay is shipping. ( said most shipping fees are around 2.17) Use your book credits to get the books you want to read.
Swap-bot
A craft swapping site. Swaps every thing from quilting square, cute pop bottle cap magnets, and much more.
Swango
Clothing swapping site works on a everything for 99 cents rule, and seemed to have a lot to choose from.
Babyswap
Buy, sell or swap all things baby.
Swapagift
A place to buy, sell or swap a gift cards. Cost $1.99 per transaction. What a great way to turn those gift cards that you can’t use into one that you can.
Please be safe in drop off and pick ups. As well with anything you do on the internet. Bad people are out there and they love to use a good thing to get what they want! Always have someone with you during drop off and pick up and as much as you can. Make the meeting place somewhere public. Never give out your address or phone number. If possible let someone in your circle of family or friends know you are going on a drop off or pick up and have them call you shortly after you should get back just to make sure everything went well.
Happy Gifting!
