An amazing website that is free, hosts many of the Internets favorite applications, past and present, for safe download, and is very easy to navigate.
This post is for anyone who has every said, “This software used to be awesome, then they came out with a new version and removed all the features I liked”. Okay so maybe none of you have ever said those exact words but you get my point. The websites slogan is, “Because newer is not always better” and I have to agree with them.
The website has application groups for the most common applications such as Communication, Utilities, and Multimedia. In each of these groups are the particular applications such as AIM, MSN Messenger, Real Player, etc.
When an application is chosen from the lists, the old versions of that application are then displayed as well as a little description of the history of the application, what the applications purpose is and any information about the company, or why the older version is better than the newer versions.
I discovered this site about seven years ago and I use it at least once a week. Many of the applications are just a few versions behind the current version and the site is so easy to navigate I usually use it to find nearly current versions of software that I need because that particular software website is difficult to navigate, or even no longer in operation.
There are a few websites that have popped up in recent years that try to mimic this website but the site is so easy to use, constantly being updated and is strangely void of advertisements that I cannot bring myself to use any of its competitors.
If you are ever in need of an application and are unable to find it anymore, are sick of trying to find the download button on a website, or are just tired of the “improvements” to the software you currently, check out www.oldversion.com
I am in no way affiliated with this company but am a long time user and admirer of their work.

With such a rave review, I’ve got to check this out. Back in the day I have a version of Real Jukebox which I updated because the folks at Real said I should. I was sorry as soon as I had done it but had no way of getting the old program back. I could have used this info back then.
What a useful article.

Joni, thanks for your comments. Real player was one of the first applications I came to this site to get for almost the same reason. I had some content in Real format that would not play and I had downloaded the newest version of Real player and it seemed so bulky and bloated. I had heard the older versions were slimmer and worked better so my search began. I came across this site and have probably downloaded every application they have, at least a few times and a few different versions.
I guess my first attempt at linking to my own content did not go through quite right. Sorry to anyone that clicks my Adravage link and gets a 404 error. I know that can be annoying.

Really great article. I’ve said that before too, after-the-fact.
Thanks for the info!
