The merits and downfalls of MLIA and FML.

Everybody knows about the war going on between Yahoo! and Google, and most clearly Google comes out on top in all of the battles. Do most people, however, realize that there is another website battle raging on the internet, and it is happening between two of the funniest websites ever created, both with similar goals and set ups?

FMyLife (FML) and MyLifeIsAverage (MLIA) are two of the funniest websites on the internet right now, and many people can say that they religiously read one or the other. Almost always they take sides, preferring one of these hilarious websites about the trials and tribulations, and the supreme averageness of everyday life respectively. Today I am here to outline the good and the bad associated with each of these side-splitting houses of hilarity.

FMyLife is the older of the two websites and with its age come a devout fan base that has been with the website since its inception. The stories on FML are often of a sexual nature, and they can seem farfetched at times, even impossible. The sexual nature of FML discourages many of the younger generation from reading it, and indeed some find it offensive, but it’s all in good fun right? And not all FML posts are vulgar, but most of them are downright depressing.  Here are a few examples of recent FML posts.

“Today, I was babysitting and the little boy asked me if I was jealous of my neighbor. I answered “No, why?” He said “Because Anna is a lot prettier than you.” Anna is 60 years old. I’m 14. FML”

“Today, my mom texted me in the middle of my end of term math exam, saying it was extremely urgent and needed me to come home ASAP. While skipping my exam, I finally got home to find out my mom forgot what the emergency was. FML”

They go on like that for over 400 pages, and more are added daily by the viewers of FML, as previously stated it is hard to tell which stories are true and which are made up just to make people laugh. MLIA is a little more realistic

MLIA is the younger brother of the two mirthful monoliths of merriment and mischief, and it is obvious by the tone of many of the posts that the viewers take somewhat of a hostile role towards FML, often spoofing some of the more regular (and obviously fake) posts to FML. MLIA is more of a family friendly spoof of FML, but that does not subtract from the amusement one gets when reading MLIA. Many of the posts on MLIA have to do with Harry Potter, Babysitting, and more recently stepping on crunchy leaves. Below are several examples of the funniest MLIAs.

“Today, my teacher saw me texting under the desk and grabbed my phone. She didnt grab my penis. MLIA.”

“Last night, I was really hot in bed, so I took one leg out of the covers. Then I got scared because it was too dark and my leg felt unprotected from somthing hiding under my bed. So I put it back under the blankets. MLIA”

Both MLIA and FML have their merits when it comes to humorous stories of everyday life, but all in all MLIA is probably friendlier for all audiences, FML does excel at the innuendo though, and they are both good sites to turn to when you are in need of a good chuckle
