Long lost art of pen pals

Have you ever wanted friends from around the world? As we all know the cost of sending letters

by air mail keeps going up in price. Many of us may have thought pen pals are in the past.  Since the concept of the internet there has been a new crop of pen pals.

There are many neat websites all you need to do is Google your search under “”free pen pals websites””. Each website includes their  flavor and style. Some e-mail you right from the website and others you exchange your e-mail addresses to correspond to people.

Here you can talk to people who are from the following countries Canada, Africa, Sweden, Ice Land, Russia, China, Italy, Germany, France, and England just to name a few.

These people are willing to help you learn a language like Chinese, or Japanese or Swedish. These pen pals can type to you in their native language to help you learn.

You can do your search on ranges like age for example from 36 to 50, single or married, friendship only or romance and male or female or both. There are many options to choose from to narrow your search to get the correct pen pal or pen pals for you.

These people may write to you every day, once a week or once in awhile. They are very friendly group of people to correspond with. You may learn about their customs and food they like or share recipes from a foreign land.  You may swap post cards or even snail mail to each other.

There are many clean sites and they do not allow profanity or lewd pictures. If you do you get banned.

These are very cool places and you do not have to pay air fair or have to worry about losing your luggage.

You may add pictures of yourself, your family, and pets or of the area where you live in an album once you setup your profile. You may have many albums of pictures. Did I mention most pen pal websites are “”free websites””? Well they are.

Since we live in such a busy world it so nice to sit down and read an e-mail from someone from another country and how there day is going.  Reading e-mails about their economy, family life or opinions in general help me feel less like a hermit and more involved in world as whole.

You can write short e-mails or long e-mails which similar to writing letters but you do not have to go to the post office and make sure you have enough money to send it overseas.

There are so many advantages it just makes sense and I feel like a better as person for corresponding to these people who are just like me missing friends and chatting or socializing.

Thank you for reading my article.

Have a wonderful day and happy pen pals.

Sincerely Lee Ness

I think people need to do more postal mailing… I mean it does cost a bit to send off. I mean in USA stamp is like 42 cents…. going out of USA it’s 94 cents…. but sometimes it’s worth it…. you know get a long letter to see how others handwritings are. Maybe trade postcards, souveniers…. etc…. I think it’s great.

I have been penpals with prison inmates for the past 35 years. A letter to them, is a joy. It makes their day. I love seeing all the different and unique handwritings. When one is released, somehow I hear from a new one. I don’t even have to find them. They find me. They call me Mom, sis, dearest friend, Auntie, etc. I would be really upset if the mail would stop moving. I have made this pen pal hobby my mission in life. Too much technology, is ruining so many personal connections. I can not relate to a pen pal on the computer, like I can through a letter.

I collect, send and receive postcards. I do this with people in the same city and across the country. Despite all the pros of the internet, you can’t beat getting a personal, hand-written message from someone…even if just a few lines!
