How to Start Your Own Web Server

Feeling like starting your own web hosting company? Maybe just a small server for your website?

The first thing you need to have is a very fast internet access line. Most ISP do not allow more than 1 Mbit per second. This is very slow. One single visitor can have as much as 100 Mbit download speed which is nothing more nothing less but 100 times more than you can server. And no, you cannot buy or purchase any additional lines for your server.

The best thing you can do is to make a deal with the ISP and to make them build a server for you, you will then pay more than usual for your internet access but at least you have better upload speeds.

The best hosting might be starting a reseller program with some other company traffic plans and then to open one account for you there.

This is probably the wisest options of the three.

You will also need to install some software. To work you will need to have an operating system. You can have Linux Fedora or you can have Windows Server. I would go for Linux because it’s the cheapest of all. Windows is just too expensive for what you can do with it, even more when you can get Linux for free on any website, just download it!

Besides that, you are going to need more software. Apache is almost a must for any server. This software will make your computer work on the internet and to behave as a server. Of course this software is not necessary in a normal laptop. This is why you might have never heard of it before.

Keep in mind that hosting your own server requires a lot of work and maintenance. You see that your laptop requires so much competence and work, now just imagine what a computer server needs to work in peak condition.
