A short guide on posting in internet forums.
A forum, is a place, where a community of people exchange ideas, chat about what’s happening and etc. But most of the people have no idea on how to post in forums properly.
Step One: The first thing a person should do after registering on the forum he/she wants to post on is to read the forum rules. Most of the people don’t even bother and miss a lot of good tips, like “where to search for help”. You should also read the “faq” also known as frequently asked questions. There you can find a lot of useful information about some questions, that may bother you.
Step two: The second thing you should do is check out what threads already exist. Post a few replies to topics and don’t rush into creating one yourself, unless it’s an introduction topic. Try to reply as accurately as you can to the topic, and try not to go off-topic like most of the posters do. Stay in the forums for a bit of time, get to know people and get the feeling of the forum. If you really want to create a new thread, first check if there isn’t a thread like the one you want to make already posted. If not, the post-ahead!
Step three: Posting. Yes, posting is the main activity of all forums. Although it may look easy, posting requires a few things:
- Good grammar
- Logical sentences
- Writing your ideas in a readable way
All of the listed are a must, if you wish for people to understand you.
Step four: Criticism. Yes, a forum is a place, where most of the people like to criticise others for mostly everything. So you must learn to accept criticism correctly. The people are just trying to improve your ideas with their own thoughts and suggestions. Take criticism as lightly as you can nad never start yelling at other people.
Step five: Enjoy. A forum should be a place where you can enjoy chatting with other people and if you find a forum unacceptable, just go find a new one.
Remember, act just like you want the people to act with you.
