How to Make Your Blog Successful

Here are 10 basic but very important tips to make your blog more popular. Read them, remember them and follow them.

Proofread everything you write. Better still get someone else to proofread it for you. If it isn’t easy to understand it will put people off. If it doesn’t make sense it will put everyone off.

Post every day, several times per day if you can, but make sure it is worthwhile content not just page-filling. There are successful bloggers out there who say you don’t need to update your blog daily, but if you don’t already have a loyal following then you really do.

Work hard. There are two ways to succeed – hard work and luck. Do you really want to leave it to chance?

Tell everybody about your blog and why it is worth reading. Get your family, your friends and your work colleagues to read your blog. Make sure every e-mail you send and every forum post you make has your blog’s URL in your signature. Do you use one or more of the many social networking sites? Then make sure your blog’s URL is prominent in your public profile. Take every opportunity to let people know about it. If you comment on anyone else’s website, make sure it includes a link to your blog.

Carefully and selectively use bookmarking sites, such as StumbleUpon and Digg, to promote each of your blog posts. Make sure you don’t break their rules as getting banned won’t help you at all.

Don’t worry about getting decent advertising on your blog at first. Until you are getting hundreds of visitors per day you won’t make any return on it anyway. Concentrate on making your blog popular first.

Work even harder. When I said “Work hard” in point 3 you probably thought you already work hard. You don’t!

Get involved in relevant online communities. Become an active participant and get yourself known.

Make sure you know who you are writing to. Build a mental image of your target reader before you write any posts. You can’t please everyone but if a small percentage of your readers really feel at home they will keep visiting your blog. Repeat visitors are what it is all about. You don’t want to have to carve out a new set of visitors every day!
