If you are like me, then you probably get fairly bored with a screen name, or even an e-mail address after some time. Before you continue on to the body of this guide, you may want to ask yourself this question: Why is it, that I am bored of this screen name? (e-mail address, STEAM User name, AIM/Yahoo/Live names, etc.)

Common answers to this would include: The name sounding too immature (if you made it a long time ago) IE jill_luvs_puppies_93@yahoo.com, The name not fitting you anymore (if you’ve magically grown out of things, like we all tend to do) IE the_dark_emo, The name getting harshly criticized (if you are bothered by something like that), or, quite simply, The name just losing its former appeal. Now, after you have answered this simple question, carry on down to the guide.

Making a new Screen Name

Step 1: Find the problem with your old SN.

Step 2: Brainstorm a list of names, regardless how silly they may sound at first. You may think it sounds odd to you, but then grow attached to it after time.

Step 3: Weed out the list, in accordance to Step 1. This means, make sure that your new name doesn’t have the same problem as the first!

Step 4: Once your name count is down to fewer names, begin to think which one best suites you. An alternate to this, is one that you make up with no meaning that sounds plain cool. In fact, my Triond name doesn’t have a meaning, it came up in a list I made in my head.

Step 5: The hardest step. Pick your favorite name out of the refined list. It may seem strange wearing in the new name, almost like a new pair of shoes, but it should eventually get comfortable hearing and seeing it.

Step 6 (Optional): If, after a few days, this new name doesn’t work, try again. It’s not all that hard, and quite enjoyable at times.
