10% of the world’s population uses the internet. That means there is almost a billion people willing to lend experience and knowledge that can’t be found locally.
Many times I have been cheated, lied to and inexperienced to the point that I felt like I was blind. However recently I’ve discovered that there are half a billion people waiting to be my eyes. I am talking about the online community that is continually developing on the Internet.
Lets say I am looking to buy a brand new car. I know nothing about cars, let alone how to buy one. The first thing that comes to my mind is how can I save the most money, find the right car and of course not get cheated and lied to. So of course the best thing anybody could do is ask someone else for help. We all need help in life. In fact it is almost impossible to survive without it. So I might ask my mom, some friends, their friends etc. to find help. But there is an incomprehensibly faster way to get this help within seconds. Forget my mom who doesn’t know anything about cars, there are almost a billion people on the internet who can give me not only factual knowledge but also opinions and suggestions from their own human experience. I could get answers on buying a car without even asking. The world is so large that there is a fat chance someone already asked that question and someone else already answered it.
At my last job they told me I had to wear a tie. Did I ask my dad? Seeing as I don’t even know where he is, no I didn’t ask him. Instead I typed a few words on Google and that was the end of it. Take that dad! Our generation has been blessed with a system that brings hundreds of millions of minds together in an instant telepathic state. Every individual that can use the internet has every other internet user in the world as his/her expense.
If you ever are faced with a decision where you feel someone is trying to use, exploit, cheat, lie or fool you, all you have to do is go online. There is more than likely a group of people who have been through the decision at hand and have expressed their feelings about it in some form or another. It is the experiences of these people that will help you find the easiest, cheapest, fastest, and right way to do whatever it is that you want to do.
So how do you find the help you need. Just ask. Go to forums, blogs, Myspace, Yahoo answers or everyones favorite, Google. Just type in a question and the people will respond. You can not go through life on knowledge alone. You need the wisdom, experience and opinions of others. Never be unprepared again. The world awaits you online.
