Know how to copy an entire website to your computer and surf offline.
- If you want to copy an entire website to your computer then you can use WinHTTrack Website Copier. It’s a free program. WinHTTrack maintains the original link structure of the site. WinHTTrack allows you to update the downloaded website and even resume your downloads. Don’t copy a website during peak hours or everyday. There are chances for you to get banned. This is very helpful for web designers and developers who do research on website coding and other work.
- Download WinHTTrack from http://www.httrack.com and Install it.
- At the end of Installation the WinHTTrack Website Copier program will be launched. Till this step you won’t have any difficulty.
- Click “Next” on the Welcome window.
- Now give the “New project name” and give the “Base path” for your files to be stored. Now click “Next”. I used to create a new folder because a website will have lots of files. You can also do that.
- Press the “Add URL…” button. Enter the “URL” in the “Insert URL” window for the website you want to copy and click “OK”. If you want to copy specific pages then use “Capture URL…” option. If a site needs any log-in then you can enter the details.
- You can see the URLs in the “Web Addresses” box. Now click “Next”.
- Note : Click “Set options…” if you want. You need not touch this tab by default. If you want to restrict any file types to while downloading then you can use this option. If HTTrack doesn’t copy properly then under “Set options…” window choose “Spider” tab and set the Spider drop down box to “no robots.txt rules”. Click “OK” in “Set options” window.
- Keep the default settings. (i.e., the first option “Please adjust connection…” should be selected).
- Now click “Finish”. Copying process will be started. All pdf’s will also be downloaded. Server side applications such as java, db and non-static links cannot not be downloaded.
- Once copying is done you will alerted with a “ahh” sound.
- Now click “Next”. You can see the “Site mirroring finished!” window. Now click Finish.
- That’s all. You have copied. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
