Great Ways to Waste Some Time on the Web

Web Talk

Listed below are nine of my favorite ways to waste time on the internet. They’ll give you something to talk about the next day at work or school, and you may even learn something new.

  1. The Darwin Awards

Are given out to people that die in dumb and/or hilarious ways. I’m pretty sure I’ve read almost every single one. Definitely interesting to read, and you’ll leave the site feeling a lot better about your own intelligence.

  2. Oddee

Has countless “top 10” style lists of interesting, hilarious, and bizarre topics. Just pick one from the sidebar that sounds neat and start reading!

  3. How Stuff Works

Will tell you everything about anything, what it is, how it works, etc. You can use it when you actually want to know something specific, but I just like browsing around random articles. Check out the ones on Dubai, the things they are building there are amazing.

  4. BigHuge Labs’ Motivator

Helps you create your own motivational posters like the ones everyone is getting lately. Choose the picture, the title, and the caption and it will create your very own motivational (or hilarious) poster!

  5. Linesthataregood

Has a huge library of pick-up lines, sorted into categories like “cheesy” (my favorite) and “straight to the point.” They are ridiculous by nature, but I love having a new corny pick up line to mess with for the day! Find your favorite one.

  6. 380 Ways to Freak Out Your Roommate

Exactly what it sounds like – 380 ways to mess with a new roommate. I first saw this right before I left for college, and I almost peed my pants thinking of actually doing this to someone. My favorite is #183.

  7. Funnysign

Has a hilarious collection of signs submitted by users from across the country. The one that I’m linking to is the best one that I’ve seen.

  8. Google Maps

For whatever reason I think its awesome finding places I’ve been to – my house, the store down the street, etc – on a satellite image. Click satellite in the top right corner, start out by finding your house and go from there. If you like this, you have got to try number 9

  9. Google Earth

Can be downloaded for free. You can look anywhere on Earth and even look at the stars.

  10. StumbleUpon

is my greatest time waster lately. Choose any number of categories that you’re interested in, click “Stumble!,” and StumbleUpon will take you to a random page based on the interests you selected. You’ll find a lot of neat pages you would never have found normally. You can find their website the Firefox add-on here.
