Google Earth allows viewers to take a different look at the world as if they were a bird or looking down on any place. Google Earth is a great tool for viewing the world and has found some pretty crazy things that have happened while the photo was taken.
Google Earth is a free program (download available from www.google.com) that allows people to view from above any location around the world. I have found these sites accidently while viewing places that are interesting to me. Copy and paste the bold co-ordinates (easier that way) into the Google Earth search bar and zoom in or out where needed to view these crazy spots.
- Car accident and traffic jam on the Sunshine Coast, Australia – some of my family live close to this location so while viewing around their home we the traffic backed up for close to 2.3 miles or 3.7km. Co-ordinates 26°53′15.69″ S 153°00′16.86″ E
- Crop Circle near Leeds, England – one of my friends comes from Leeds so when we were looking at where they came from we noticed a crop circle in one of the farms outside Leeds. Co-ordinates 53°41′40.46″ N 1°33′34.15″ W
- Light show in Amsterdam – a friend told me of this one but we don’t know what it is. Looks like a light bulb has exploded right when the photo was taken. Co-ordinates 52°31′17.89″ N 5°43′58.57″ E
- Map of the World in Dubai – seems like someone has too much time and sand on their hands and have started making a World map out of sand islands. If you zoom out even further you’ll see a few other sand works. Co-ordinates 25°13′13.85″ N 55°10′12.41″ E
- Cruise ship overturns near Busan, Korea – in doing some research for college I found this image of a cruise liner that appears to have overturned at the docks. Co-ordinates 35°09′18.19″ N 129°08′51.12″ E
- Car on fire in Baghdad, Iraq – this is one that has done the email rounds which you may have seen. A car or some type of vehicle seems to have caught on fire with a trail of black smoke. The question to ask is did the car crash, blow up or get hit by a bomb? Who knows? Co-ordinates 33°19′35.23″ N 44°17′04.93″ E
- Traffic in Baghdad, Iraq – when the car on fire above was sent to me I decided to have a look around Baghdad while I was there and take a look at the traffic. I don’t think I’ll ever drive in that city. Co-ordinates 33°17′56.04″ N 44°26′01.65″ E. This isn’t at one intersection either, explore the whole city and you’ll see the chaos.
The world is such an interesting place. No doubt there are more crazy, weird or funny locations out there still waiting to be found.

That’s some cool stuff. One can have hours of fun with Google Earth.
To make it easier to see some of those things I’ve put them together as a list of trip points in Mapness: http://mapness.net/journey/6387
