GoDaddy: Bad Service and Misleading Advertisements

Web Talk

This is probably the biggest and the worst hosting services in the world. Read my experiences with them.

In my last article about Godaddy I wrote about how they lied to me with Wordpress upgrades and other similar things. This article will be an update of their (super) bad service.

Let’s start with the Hosting Package they advertise:

Economy Plan

Plan Features
• 100 Email Accounts
• FREE! Software
• 10 MySQL Databases
• 50 Email Forwards
• NEW! Assign an AccountExec
• Forums, Blogging, Photos
• Go Daddy Hosting Connection
• $20 Google® AdWords® Credit1
• $25 Microsoft® adCenter Credit†
• $50 Facebook® Ad Credit††
• FREE! Google Webmaster Tools

These are all official numbers you can check on the official website. The 100 email accounts is a lie. You get only 2 email accounts. I emailed them about this issue and they told me I had only one email account and another credit to get another one. I thought I had 100 email accounts with my plan… Costumers being lied to. If you want more, you need to pay for them. The package only includes 2 email accounts.

The second thing they promise is “Email privacy and protection with 256-Bit Encryption”. Simply not true. They even cheat on us with the URL of the email. You can read “http://email.secureserver.net/search.php” and you think you are secure. The line is NOT encrypted. It’s open and you can see the HTTP instead of the HTTPS and even Firefox or any other browser will tell you the information you send trough this line can be read by third parties. Do you want someone to know more about your personal or business messages?

When I try to use Outlook with my Godaddy email address I cannot send any email messages. It always says my IP is blocked because of SPAM even before I have sent a single message!!! This is simply not acceptable. I contacted them only to read I had to follow the blocked server advice and instructions. I did it and I am still blocked for something I haven’t done… If you use Outlook you need to be super careful. Godaddy will delete all your messages you download. This means that if your computer goes *KABUM* you will lose all your email. Think this is acceptable?

Finally we still have the speed issue. No matter how small your website is, it will be one of the slowest of the internet even if you do not have millions of visitors per month. I contacted Godaddy about this issue several times and several times I got no answer from them.

Take a look at this table and see how Godaddy speed is compared to other sites. Even their own site is super fast compared to the service they render you.

10 www.godaddy.com 185.4 KB 1.12 seconds 0.01 seconds

You can test your website at Free Site Speed Test

My advise? If you do not have too many strings attached to your hosting account such as DNS, MX, Emails, SQLs and all those complicated technologies you’d better change while you can.

Will I change Godaddy? As soon as I manage to find a way to transfer all the email and the Wordpress to another host.

I have found nothing about them to be true as of yet and I won’t hold my breath!

I don’t know much about them, but I hear a lot of complaints.
Keep us informed is one of your excellent traits.

Thanks for this info! I use justhost for my site! Sorry for wasting your money on them!

See, I just never trusted a company called GoDaddy to begin with. They called me trying to get me to switch my business over to them and I told them I just couldn’t take a company calling itself GoDaddy seriously. Sorry you’ve wasted time and money with them, but it’s good to see my gut was right about the bastards.

    @Redburn
For every Domain you have 1 account:
Free Email with domain – Personal Email (1 GB Total/1 Box)
    —————— ———————- ————
For my Deluxe Hosting I have 5 accounts:
Free Email with hosting – Free Hosting Email Account (100MB)

When I setup the last one, I can create for every (5) accounts 100 adresses = 500.
    Please read the features again:
    you won’t get 100 e-mail *accounts* (=every account with own username/password)-

    you’ll get 100 *addresses* (= one username/password for all)
and an additional account with your Domain.
