The internet is a dangerous place, you have to know when you are in danger.
Websites can trick you into supplying your personal information, or infecting your computer with all sorts of malicious software. You should learn to protect yourself before you are attacked. This article contains five steps towards protecting your self against malicious websites. These ways may be efficient in checking new websites you have concerns for, and not every website you visit as it will cause you to waste time, but be wise and cautions while surfing the internet as you never know what is behind every link.
- URLs are a big clue to websites that are not what they claim to be. If you entered the website and went to enter information such as passwords, and the URL changes, it may be that the site is trying to steal your information.
- Does the URL look right? if there are extra dots between the www and .com such as www.site.webs.com it may be hosted by another website in a cheap way to steal information or infect you with software. Sites do use more dots in their name, but make sure its trust able and from the same site, and not a branch off a website that a third party had access to (such as free webs gives .web.com accounts.
- Poorly coded websites are often used by scams, right click the website and check the source, the form should say how the forms are submitted, if it is submitted by a cheap way like g-mail, the site may be a scam.
- Is the website giving testimonies? About all websites that need to give testimonies are fake, to gain trust. If you genuinely trust the site still, look for a description of how the testimonies are sent, if there is no access to sending a testimony, the Creator of the website is obviously faking the testimonies, its not hard to make up positive things about themselves to trick confidence into products.
- If in doubt, always run a quick google search of the website, if people have had previous bad experiences with the same website, there are usually bad comments and results from google. If even one comment negative appears about the site about its activities, it is wise to stay away from that website.

Very informative post. I needed this. I am ignorant when it comes to the computer and I have no one to ask questions. Except my friends on Triond, now! Thank goodness!
