Looking for some new gaming experiences but don’t want to cough up the dough? Take a look at these five fantastic – and free – online games.
Hotel 626

Turn off your lights and turn up your speakers! This is a genuinely spooky experience and if you are faint-hearted, either on your own or in the company of others then do not go here! Hotel 626 is haunted and the whole set up is reminiscent of twenty first century gothic horror – if you like movies such as The Ring (original Japanese version of course!) then you will love this! This is fully interactive, combining the best of web 2.0, graphics, film and multimedia together. Be prepared to use your webcam and your speakers for a variety of different tasks as you spend the night in Hotel 626!
WITSEC Confidential
Image created by Author
The Federal Witness Protection Program needs your help! Your role is a US Marshal within WITSEC and it is your job to make sure that the individuals within the program stay alive. The only problem is, of course, that someone always wants them dead! Your partner is US Marshal Marshall Mann (oh dear!) and if you can cope with his name then he needs a lot of help keeping his witnesses safe and close. In order to solve the eleven cases here you will need to pay a lot of attention to the clues that you (may or may not) find along the way. Wrap this up in a beautifully designed interactive package and you have a lot of fun for a lot of hours!
Monster Lab
Image created by Author
This is rather lighter hearted than the previous games and rather more on the old fashioned side of things in terms of the games that you can choose to play. However, the interface is huge fun and the stuff you can do is more immediate. Make your own monster first of all and then increase its strength by completing certain tasks in three experiment rooms. At any time you can then choose to pit your monster against any of the others that online users have created to see who comes out on top. The fights between the monsters are rather disappointing but the tasks that have to be done to get to a suitable fight point as elaborate and well done. If you like your monsters mashed then this may well be for you!
Dork Dodge!
Image created by Author
One for the ladies – or not depending on your temperament and views on women’s’ liberation! What you have to do here is dodge the dorks and find true love! You can give your chosen avatar a name (I called mine Cindy Lou) and then you have to dodge a whole variety of dorks who try and pick you up on your travels through the college dormitory. A combination of deliberately old fashioned flash-driven graphics and video (pity the poor actors who did four years at drama school to end up doing this!). Immediate and bouncy fun, this one is bound to please if you have been dodging a dork of late and want to learn how to do it properly!
Auditorium

This game is all about discovery as well as play. You are given some very strange looking puzzles to solve interactively on your screen. The great thing is that there are many ways to solve each problem so there is no absolute right or wrong answer.

Awesome RJ! I always dig the interactive games that bring you as far away from just using your mouse and keyboard and try and incorporate every element at your disposal when sitting in front of a computer.
Welcome Back!

Great list! Maybe should give it a try during my office hour. LOL. Anyway, you can try Runescape too. Pretty cool game but not sure whether they’re charging any fees nowadays. The last time I know, it’s still free and very popular in the online community.
